1 Picture 1 Story Week #81

@suboohi for putting up this contest. I know most entry will be showcasing love, happy moments, celebration etc but this story of my friend will be a sad one though could have been a happy one if camera was installed in the exam hall.

I had wake up to a text message that had invited me to appeared before committee of panel on exam misconduct. This was a message that set my soul apart from my body.

Thoughts in me had run deep and the pressure in me risen but there was no escape to the horror of this nightmare that visited me in daytime becoming my reality has all what thought of me could believe was "this is an illusion" but sadly, it was my reality. A reality I am today grateful to.

In the text message was a date 12 -02 -2024. A day I was to walked in that door and be judged and upon that set date I got there and final year students where having their defense in different department of the institution. Hence, the date was changed and the sitting postponed to a new date. I went home but the person in me was crying for help has thoughts of the outcome from judgement of the panel is what really concerned me as I have heard and I am aware that greater percentage as 99.9% don't get vindicated from their wrong doing in exam hall. I was already worried about the weight of panelty they will give to me as punishment to my misconduct.

I had come early hour in the day of the next date and set to meet with secretary of the panel who had seems to show sympathy and understand the rigid judgement exam misconduct committee do issue out to students. He was encouraging few of us (students) to say the truth so our punishment can be reduced to something light and not too tense.

He proceeded to asked me to tell him what happened that I got here.

On the second semester of my 200level, the final day of my exam for the semester. I had read overnight for my exam and was well prepared. The exam was to start and end by 3pm- 6pm, I was in the exam hall and the sitting arrangement was 2 students per seating position. The exam question paper had seven questions to answer five which I answered four question and was attempting the fifth question.
My nightmare 🌃 visited me, and a scenario played out ... One of my answer script had falled without my notice as the instructions before exam begin was to separate each sheet into five piece. I didn't quite notice on time my fallen script of which another student right I'm front of me in his ignorance picked up the script to raise awareness to whom it might become to. The supervisor from a distance had spotted him and walked down to our position asking him to stay still and whose script it was, he replied by saying "no idea" I was happy answering my last question cause this was a 3 credit unit course and if I can secure an 'A' I know the magic it will perform to my CGPA. Script was searched and
Surprisingly I was asked to stop writing and offer my papers for search as well then the name on the fallen script matches the name on my script. That was when the night falls for me as misconduct form was offered for me to get it filled with necessary information. I tried my best to explain myself but resistance to filled the form will get any students expelled from the institution. Such rigid rule... I filled the form hoping to explain myself to the panel when called upon despite knowing it's rare to get vindicated.
After narrating what happened to the secretary he was in awe and says I hope they believe me.

Where nine in numbers who were to appear before them and seven of us was there and before I was called upon.
One of the committee members happen to be my lecturer and he was surprised when he sees my face. He asked, what are you doing here and I explained everything to him. In words of his mouth, "this is not convincing enough" and I replied, but sir " it the truth of what happened"
After names were called, mine later follow and I step in to explain my own part of what happened in the exam hall but to me right now, I believe it was all useless to appear before the panel as the system is rigid for students.

I explain to them what I told the secretary, and most of them took sympathy on me but at same time wasn't convince if truly the script had fall without me noticing.

Rather, in their defense to punish me, they say the student who picked your script should have called on attention of the supervisor to attend to the script on the floor and they student says he was ignorance of that then come the saying "no ignorant before the law" I got suspended for two semester.

In my thought, I really hope this was a modernize school with CCTV camera installed in exam hall. This would have save me from two semester suspension.

I returned home to inform my parents and luckily for me. My family didn't criticize me though they wasn't so proud of me either.

I serve my terms and I am back in campus but each time I walked pass this door.
It rings a bell and leave a reminder about the memory I hold about a soul leaving my body.

The world is evolving everyday and technology is a key player on how the world evolve. Institution should see to it that they also evolve to break down on rigid means of passing judgement.

If not for anything, I will say, the victim is brave to inform his parents about the two semester suspension.
