2,5 Weeks on Bali - #8
Day 6 and after five days in Ubud, it was time for a new location! A driver took us to Candi Dasa. Ubud is very busy and touristy. Candi Dasa felt more authentic. We had a little cabin very close to the sea. Our B&B in Ubud was beautifully located in the rice paddies, but this cabin in Candi Dasa also felt like paradise. Especially the pool area and gazebos that faced the sea.
After our days in Ubud we wete getting used to the traffic here and felt brave enough to rent a scooter.
We actually never drove a scooter before. The lady that rented us the scooter very quickly explained what to do and we kindly asked her to show us again. She was a bit confused and we had to tell her we never drove before. Her scooter was obviously brand new and very expensive. I think she had two very bad nights of sleep after leaving her scooter with us... Poor lady. Luckily, we got the hang of it very quickly and eventually returned it without a scratch :)
Renting a scooter and getting gasoline was really cheap and an even better means of transportation than asking someone to drive us. In Bali almost every road is two-lane with one lane for each direction. The roads go up and down hills, sometimes with sharp turns. You inevitably get stuck behind a slow fully loaded truck at some point. You can pass it at certain points, but you have to wait for a good opportunity so that causes traffic jams. It's a lot easier to pass these trucks by scooter. Moreover, we're the kind of tourists that don't stay at tourists attractions very long so we tend to travel a lot on one day. Therefore, a scooter would be perfect!
After practicing our driving skills it was time to explore the area.
We found some additional rice paddies
We actually ended up in Amed, a little fishing village popular for scuba diving. The landscape is more rugged and the beaches are grey. And there were chickens! :D
The sun sets pretty early here, around 18h. We still had an hours drive to go so we needed to get back to make sure we didn't have to drive in the dark.
We had dinner at a Western place. We tried to avoid this while on Bali but this time we couldn't resist!
Best chocolate mousse ever!
We ended the night relaxing in the gazebo with some coconuts
Thanks for joining us!
Stay tuned to follow the rest of our trip! :)
