Apocalypto (2006) - Bezil's Review
This is such an amazing visual story directed by Mel Gibson and Staring Rudy Youngblood as the main hero of the film. The film actually focus around the Mayan tribes and rise of power. The director, Mel Gibson may be a controversial actor / filmmaker, however, it must be admitted that his skin as a director suits him perfectly. Apocalypto is the typical example, showing that Gibson has the great talent to know how to tell a story, in this case in history itself. Although, the native indigenes might think ''Apocalypto'' is a gross exaggeration of their Mayan civilization even though the movie uses cultural and environmental resources such as the Yucatec Mayan language (with main photogenic actor embedding an American accent of Mayan monosyllables), but hey! - for me, i belive the director does depict a fairly resonance about the Mayans civilization. I mean, for a movie freak like me, that was the first time i got to know about a long lost culture.

Review: I'm so giddy about this movie that i don't know what to say! Mel Gibson's mesmerizing ''Apocalypto'' is a powerful, gut-wrenchingly and a truly unique cinematic experience of heart-pounding suspense. The founding element of the film is the extreme exercise of reconstitution, actors unknown in front of the camera, speaking the Mayan language and the Yucatec, thus infusing a
terrible degree of realism, allowing moreover the total situation of the spectator in this a world both magnificent and hostile. Magnificent because Gibson uses a sublime staging, filming nature in extraordinary travellings (see the sequence of the waterfall), and demonstrating once again that he is a master in the art of slow motion, thus infusing action scenes with density and crazy tension.
Overall, Apocalypto is clearly a great entertainment, where Gibson delivers a great escape, an extraordinary adventure for love and survival. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
