That Night of my first Crime

Sometimes a chain of reactions will put your world upside down. If you think about that later in life you can just awe that you have faced them and had successfully came out of that.

It was the year 2012. I was doing duty as a medical officer in a small hospital in Kerala.That particular day the only Surgeon and Orthopedician was on leave. They told me specifically not to attend any cases as expert opinion was not available.So I kept on referring all cases to nearby medical collage. It was around 6 pm. A small car rushed through the gate of the hospital.I was just coming out of the doctors room.From the car 3-4 people carried a 45 yr old looking man to the casuality. He was unconscious. I thought it will be one of the common cases like hypoglycemia or stroke.But a shock came to me when I realized it was a gunshot case. The story goes like this. He had a small quarrel with a 70 year old man. The old man came back with a gun which he uses for hunting and shot him.The pellet in the gun pierced his chest and the scattering pellet had hit his mother in law also in her arms. She accompanied the case with bleeding arms.And there I stand without knowing how to manage this case infront of a mob of 10-20 people.You see gunshot injuries requires an expert opinion which is a luxury to have on that particular day. I cannot refer him also as he is not stable. I was sure that he will not reach the medical collage. The blood pressure was also falling drastically. So we did some basic fluid resuscitation and with heavy heart we referred the case in an ambulance. After half an hour a call came saying that he has passed away in the middle of that journey itself.
It didn't end there......

Within one month I had to go to Kolkata to join post graduation course.The hospital authorities assured me that I can continue as per my plan and they will manage the case.But at the end of my first year in IIT Kharagpur I got a call from Police station saying that I am their expert witness for this special case. During second year of my course, marriage proposal of my wife came for me. We fixed a date for that function of meeting the girl for the first time. But unfortune struck me there also. I was summoned in court at that exact date.So we planned the function in the evening after attending the court duty. It was my first and last experience at court of law. With great fear and anxiousness I entered. There I met the person who messed up with my life. The old man was sitting innocently catching his gun in his hand. I gave my witness and left. Still I remember this incident as a night mare. The moment I felt so helpless.But an end of a bad time can be a beginning of a good time right. I met my wife for first time after that.

Some days are just bad days, that's all. You have to experience sadness to know happiness, and I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day, that's just the way it is!
