STEEM WOMEN CLUB COMMUNITY: Chain of Goodness Event| My Fourth Feeding Program
Happiness is not so much on having as sharing. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
Doing things for others - whether small, unplanned acts or regular volunteering - is a powerful way to boost our own happiness as well of those around us. The people we help may be strangers, family, friends, colleagues or neighbours. They can be old or young, nearby or far away.
Giving isn't just about money, so you don't need to be rich. Giving to others can be as simple as a single kind word, smile or a thoughtful gesture. It can include giving time, care, skills, thought or attention. Sometimes these mean as much, if not more, than financial gifts. In my previous post I have volunteered to participate in some feeding programs and given some school supplies to my students.
For the past few weeks I have planned for this activity, I contacted a dear friend of mine so we could collaborate and do the activity together. This couple share the same goal as me. We love to share and help.
The Process
This lovely couple who happens to be a very good friend of mine @georgie84 and @steemitcebu might be a familiar face to some of you here at steemit. We decided to meet and discussed about what we are going to buy and the food we are going to prepare for the kids. We decided to divide the job. I was assigned to buy juice for the kids and @georgie84 and @steemitcebu will be the one to buy other stuff we need in making our sandwich.
We have contacted someone to do the tshirt that we will use for our feeding activity and my friend @traderpaw prints tshirts as her sideline so we asked her to do it. And it turned out really good. She included our usernames too.Early today I went to the supermarket to buy juice so I could help in preparing. For todays Feeding Activity we will be giving Egg Sandwich, Juice and Ice cream. It's scorching hot in the Philippines right now so the ice cream is what the kids need right now.
The Preparation
We started at 12:30 pm, mixed the mayonnaise and the hard boiled egg. I was assigned to wrap the sandwiches. Each has their job to do so we can finish preparing early. All in all we were able to make more than 100 sandwiches. Wow that's really a lot, so we thought we will just give anyone who comes. Kids, teenagers, and even adults were given.
The Distribution
We prioritized the kids and when they heard that we were ready a lot of kids lined up. Ofcourse we followed protocol and let the kids wear their face mask. Everybody was so excited, some of them were pushing one another. We asked them to form a line properly so no one could get hurt.
I remember a quote I read by Mother Teresa saying A day lived without doing something good for others is a day not worth living. It has always been a passion of mine to help people. At times I keep on thinking of how and what I can do to help. At times even when I walk the street I hand out food to some homeless people. And by this way I feel happy and fulfilled.
Never stop doing little things for others, sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts. Helping people is very important to me. It give me an opportunity to give back to my community. It just feels great to be able to help others especially children.
Saying Thank You
Looking at the kids smiles melts my heart, since we prepared too much we asked them to come back if they want a refill, the kids loved the ice cream specially on a hot weather. A lot of them asked for extra for their parents left at home, they wanted to give to their mom or dad. We gave everyone who asked since it was intended to be shared.
"A happy and smiling child is worth more than all the money in the world." Its something that made me realize by looking at these two kids, they volunteered to hold the piece of paper we made as an expression of gratitude to @steemwomenclub. They were so enthusiastic to take photos with us.
Our activity today wouldn't be a success without the help and support of @steemwomenclub, @steemcurator01 and to those who volunteered to help. Without these people we wouldn't have the courage to do more charitable works. And of course a huge thanks to steemit for giving us this opportunity.
Hoping to help more people/children in the future and I hope you can share your chain of goodness too.
