Windows XP, goodbye to the latest version
Microsoft has terminated support for Windows XP Home and Professional back in 2014, ceasing to release security updates and providing technical support for its operating system distributed since 2001.
However, the company had guaranteed five years of extended support for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 , making it the latest incarnation of Windows XP still supported. On April 9, two days ago, Microsoft pulled the plug on the support of this version for ATMs and embedded devices, decreeing the actual death of Windows XP .
Other company variants of Windows XP - such as Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and Windows Embedded for Point of Service SP3 - had survived the 2014 formal farewell, but exhaled their last breath in January of this year and in 2016 respectively.
For all those nostalgic for the ancient operating system it is therefore time to move on, to something that is continually updated, such as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, a direct descendant of the Windows Embedded OS family.
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise allows you to do much more than your ancestor and above all to do it better, guaranteeing the possibility of receiving technical support and new security patches to maintain a healthy and unhealthy system like the old Windows XP.
