[PC] Okami HD: A Remake Filled with Action-packed Goodness!

Okami is an action-adventure game, drawn in a traditional Japanese calligraphy-like art style. The player controls Amaterasu, the Shinto Goddess of the Sun in the form of a wolf, to free Nippon from the eight-headed demon Orochi. Many players refer to it as “The best non-Zelda Zelda Game”. Now... What does that mean?

The HD remake of the original console game "OKAMI" stands out in any case by its incredibly good PC port. There are no problems when playing the game, and the resolution is also more than impressive. The uniquely beautiful graphics style, which reminds very much of recent titles like Windwaker HD or Ori And The Blind Forest, is even more captivating in HD resolution than it was on the PlayStation 2 back when it was first released.

The gameplay is something you have never seen before due to the so-called "brush technique". In the active combat system, you can switch between melee combat in the form of weapons and ranged combat / spells in the form of brush techniques in the middle of the battle, allowing you to combine your attacks with each other. This creates dynamic duels and makes the gameplay more engaging and fun.

The story is (despite the fact that you play as a wolf who never makes a sound except "woof woof" and "bark bark"), so well done that even after several runs I would still feel captivated.

The characters you meet throughout the game world all have their own peculiarities and have a strong recognition value for the player. The chemistry between player and characters just fits. And of course you shouldn't forget the quirky sidekick of our wolf Amaterasu, Issun, who always has something to say even in epic and/or dangerous situations.

Pros

  • Beautiful graphic in a traditional Japanese calligraphy style
  • About 80hrs of gameplay for a full completion
  • Timeless game

Cons

  • Despite being a HD remake, the PC version is limited to 30FPS
  • A lot of very long dialogues. Some people love it, some people hate it.
  • The controls can take a little bit of time to get used to

It is definitely a world worth exploring for anyone who does not fear the cel shading-like art style and new styles of combat! I rate this game 9/10.
