A Green Walk

in GEMS4 years ago

There is a park in my city, Bucharest, which is called the Circus Park. That's because the circus building is on the edge of it.

It is a strange and unique park. Unique because it has a small lake in the middle and the estelin lake with lotus flowers. Now I'm not sure if these flowers are lotus flowers or a variety of water lilies. Beyond this unknown it remains totally strange that such flowers can grow in the middle of a very crowded city.

Let's call them lotuses! I'm taking a break now and searching on Google to see if I'm right, I think it's important not to give wrong information.

Oh, brothers, these are really lotuses! I haven't had the confirmation for so long and thanks to this blog I easily found out that ...

In the middle of the park is the "Lake with natural springs", with an almost round shape in plan and with an area of 0.75 ha, near the shore of which grow Egyptian lotuses (Nelumbo nucifera) / (Nymphea lotus), a flower declared a monument of nature in 1931. This rare plant has a stage of vegetation that begins in the spring, grows rapidly covering the summer waters of the lake with large leaves and beautifully colored flowers. Source

So I was right in my assumption ... Egyptian lotuses! I can't imagine how they got there but I'm so glad it happened.

In July the lake is invaded by lotuses. I look forward to this happening and I take several walks mainly to admire the wonderful flowers. Now it happened to be Wednesday and I'm doing this blog for #wednesdaywalk, the wonderful challenge hosted by @tattoodjay!

This park intrigues me. The city of Bucharest is built on a plain, so the relief is flat. The park is built in a pit, it looks like a crater. I need to go to Google again...

The park is also known as "Tonola Park", because it was arranged on the former "Tonola pit", formed because from there was excavated clay for the brick factory founded (in 1865 [6]) by Max Tonola. Source

That explains the pit. I'm glad I found out so easily. I'm not used to asking Google yet ...

So the park is arranged in the pit where, for almost a hundred years, the clay for bricks was extracted. Bricks with which the houses in this city were built.

Now instead of clay are alleys, lake, trees and flowers. A perfect place for walking and relaxing.

And the name of the park, the Circus Park, is given by this building on the right. Romania's state circus. I saw many shows there, as a child. Now I don't like the circus anymore.

When I walk in the park, especially if I am alone, like now, I like to observe those who walk. It is interesting to see how others relax. By bike or with his girlfriend!

Much more attractive was to observe the small creatures that live on or near the lake. Insects and birds that normally have nothing to look for in these places.

A dragonfly. I haven't seen one so close in a long time. I sat next to him for a long time to photograph him as close as possible. I can say that I waited to befriend him.

Then the wild ducks. An entire family. Which also, should not live in the city.

I really like to look at the sky. Indirect. The sky reflected in the lake water.

Every park is full of flowers. Various flowers. This park does not have many flowers, or rather, it has many flowers but they all go unnoticed due to the lotuses.

Always a flower, #alwaysaflower, especially in the park. Walking in the park.

This post was initially posted here, I remade some of it and I post it here slightly modified because I think all my friends, wherever they are, should see it.
