The tragedy in El Paso

Yesterday, 3 August 2019, at between 10:00 and 11:00 21 year old Patrick Crusius walked into the WalMart store at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas and opened fire on the crowd of shoppers estimated to be up to 2,000 strong. While some of those present exhibited true heroism in protecting the life and limb of those around them by helping people find cover or evacuate, the shooter was not stopped in the course of his rampage. The results of that rampage were horrific: 20 dead and 26 wounded. The shooter was arrested by police without incident shortly after the rampage.

The shooter is alleged to have written a manifesto where the upcoming action is presented as an anti-immigrant attack designed to discourage mass immigration of Hispanics into the US. The manifesto's author also is opposed to racial mixing and overall sounds like a bona fide White/European supremacist. He also vows not to be taken alive. If the manifest authorship is ascribed correctly, he has clearly failed in that regard at least.

My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy. I also hope this extremist will fail in his provocation and his attempt to shift the political discourse into the realm of violence will not succeed.
