First day of the Michigan Glass Project

in #cannabis6 years ago

So today was the first day of the event, and I've gotta say its awesome to see how much it grows every year. This year, the first major difference that I noticed, was right upon walking in. Normally there is no shortage of glass decorations at events like this, but one of the first things I saw was this intricate glass fountain sculpture, where water poured out of a glass plant over a functional glass rig that was lit with LED lights and surrounded by smaller glass plants.

Only feet past this beautiful fountain, I looked above me to see this huge chandelier sitting right above my head. This I can only imagine was a collaboration between the glass artists that work in this space full time, and one of the metal shops in the surrounding warehouses. It features several silver and gold fumed wrap and wrake sections flared out large enough to be lamp shades. The middle features a multi section ball featuring blue and yellow and a small faceted clear marble adorning the bottom. Surrounding the blue and yellow ball was a couple of horns made out of the same kind of lined tubing I use to make wig wags with. All of this carefully installed on a steel frame.

When you get past all of that, you are presented with table after table of fantastic glass art that has been donated for the charity auction. These pieces range from raw glass materials, to cups, to sculptural art, and there was even a neon sign. I could go into too much detail trying to explain every piece of glass on these tables, but I took some pictures of the highlights (at least what I thought was cool).

Beyond these tables begins the actual fun. I am going to save that for another post as my phone is running low on battery and it's been a long day. Plenty of more pictures and story's to come. Maybe I'll even be able to get some videos of the Boro Derby races, just not sure how I'd upload them to Dtube from mobile.
