My Actifit Report Card: September 28 2018

I went running with my son and daughter today for the first time. That was a treat. I took my son out first and he made it one time around the block and seemed satisfied with that. Then I took my daughter out and did a half lap.
They ask me all the time if they can come running with me, so today I finally let them (for a little bit). It was nice to see how satisfied that made them.

FTFY ;-)
First your wife starts to ask you if you need time to exercise and now the kids are coming along. This lifestyle change you started in January is reaping unforeseen benefits! Keep it up, my friend!
Thanks for the FYI.
That must have been a subliminal slip. My dad’s in a steadily debilitating state where he is losing the sensation and use of his legs. I’m really hoping he’ll make a recovery and I’ll be able to take him out for a short jog the next time I see him.
Unfortunately, my wife wasn’t happy about me taking the kids out. She said since I did it one time, I’m going to have to do it over and over again and that it will lead to fights about who gets to go around the block first, etc.
She’s right in a lot of ways, but still, if they’re interested and want to participate, I think it’s good to allow them to join in at least a little bit while they are motivated and interested. I hate saying No when I don’t have a good reason for doing so.
If I keep it up, I think my wife will come around to this as well and more positive changes will result.
Sorry to hear about your father. Mine has something similar, spinal stenosis. If he stands or walks a bit his legs go numb.
My prediction? Your wife will eventually join in and you will all jog as a family :-)
We’ll see about your prediction;) Do you have a date by which you think it will come true?
My dad’s condition is similar to spinal stenosis, except that he has numbness in his left leg and foot even when sitting down. When he was 20, he broke his back in a car accident and had his lower five or so vertebrae fused together. The assumption is that the scar tissue from the injuries has built up and combined with the spinosis to really pinch his nerve and cause both the numbness and muscle atrophy he is experiencing. He’s always been active though, and the onset of his symptoms have been very fast. They also correspond to the time that he and my mother separated and divorced, he quit drinking and dissociated himself from a lot of friends, and got diagnosed with prostate cancer, so part of me wonders if there isn’t something else going on. It’s tough to watch. He’s only 62, and he’s pretty depressed as a result of his depreciating mobility.
That’s so sad. I wish him the best.
Thanks. He’s had a lot of work done, so hopefully something will give. Six months or so ago he had an operation where they cut the back of his vertebrae off to relieve pressure on his spine, but after the operation he developed cysts that applied more pressure than had been there before. He had a second procedure yesterday to remove the cyst that didn’t pop the first time around, but the doctor couldn’t drain it for some reason. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
I hope so. I wish him all the best.
That is really awesome! Well done!
Thanks. I was also happy yesterday because when I cleaned out my son’s Daycare bag I found a book that he had made that day. He tends to be much more physical than artistic, but we’ve been pushing him a bit at home to start learning to read and write, and at Daycare he made his own picture book with drawings and sentences about our trip home to the States this past summer. Nobody told him or asked him to do it. He just decided on his own to give it a try. I thought that was really great!
Aww that is awesome. Yeah enjoy those years and take lots of pics and vids. Trust me as time goes by, you will really be happy you did!
Thanks for the advice. My wife is really good about that. Even just looking back over five years, I can see how nice it is to have all the pictures and especially videos. Today’s technology makes it pretty easy to take and store videos, and order pre bound photo albums, etc.
Great! Family running 😅
Keep it up 😊
