NCAA College Basketball Weekend Wrapup
There was quite a bit of college basketball on this weekend. Most of it happened on Saturday. In fact, I am not really even going to cover the games that happened on Friday night and Sunday. Most of those days were dedicated to the NFL and college bowl games which I will cover later this week.
There were three big upsets this weekend and then a rather impressive showing by my Michigan State Spartans. I know that I put a strong emphasis on the Spartans in most of my writing, but that is my team and if you don't like it... tough :)
Michigan State coasted to a 101 to 48 victory over Eastern Michigan University. This wasn't that surprising of an outcome for me, but the way the Spartans have been playing lately, you just never know. In reality it might not be that Michigan State played so well but that EMU is just horrible. Either way, I hope these wins continue to give them momentum heading into the regular season.
The biggest upset this weekend was #18 Villanova over #1 Kansas. I feel like there has been a ton of movement in the rankings this season. Much more than we have seen in the past. It seems like every week there is a new team in the #1 spot. I think that is great, it should make for a much more diverse tournament in March I hope.
Other notable Cinderella wins from the weekend include unranked Colorado beating #13 Dayton and St. John's beating #16 Arizona. Maybe it can just be chalked up to sloppy play, but I hope it means there are going to be a lot of really good teams in contention this year.
