Hey, Slick: How to Look Dewy (Not Shiny) in Photographs
Next month, a Sugar staffer is getting married. Hooray! On the big day, our bride wants to appear radiant and dewy, but not shiny, in photographs. So I asked Avon's Global Creative Color Director, Jillian Dempsey, for her expert opinion on the topic. Best of all, her advice applies not to just brides, but bridesmaids, or anyone who wants to reduce the glare of a shiny, not-so-happy forehead in photos. BellaSugar: How can our bride-to-be look dewy, but not shiny, in pictures?
Jillian Dempsey: First of all, make sure that her face, neck, and chest are all even so that they match tonally. Don't just do your face and forget about your neck and your chest. So you have to find the one in-between shade.

There are products that are made specifically for your t-zone that are mattifiers, and Avon has MagiX ($10), which is a great primer for a base. If you're not going to be out in the sun, skip the SPF for photos. Use a primer like a MagiX, or buy something that’s a mattifier, and use it only in the areas around the nose, in between your eyebrows, and right above the head of your eyebrows. Prime those areas out first before her application. And get a nice foundation that matches perfectly those three categories [the face, neck, and chest].

BS: So should it be an oil-free or matte foundation?
JD: I don’t think it really matters. What matters is getting those areas primed. Also, I would suggest a powder only in those areas before the professional pictures are taken. You can have someone touch you up. And go 20 percent more with blush than you'd normally do. You know that old saying, "the blushing bride" — but it really does help to soften things up and make it a little pretty. Always wear mascara, and always wear lashes.

BS: Waterproof mascara?
JD: On the lower lashes for sure. I know sometimes people have a hard time with waterproof on the upper lashes, but definitely the lower lashes — go waterproof.
