Meet the great-great-grandniece of Harriet Tubman

While riding motorcycle through Auburn Ny, @dreemit and I decided to visit the former home of the famous figure of the underground railroad Harriet Tubman. We found her small home, then we rode to a cemetery where we found her final resting place. Finally, we made our way to her church where so much of her and others activism had been centered.

It was while taking pictures of the church that this lovely lady walked up and asked us what was going on. We told her that we were making our day about celebrating the life of Harriet Tubman. She said, "Harriet Tubman?", "Why, that is my great great Auntie. My name is Pauline Copes Johnson, nice to meet you folks".

It was like the ghost of Harriet Tubman herself had come to greet us.

We talked for awhile and she told us stories about her aunt, the church and the time she had met the president. She told us that the old church had been deemed a federally preserved site and that it was no longer in danger of being torn down.

We could feel the quiet pride in her victories. The strength in Pauline Copes Johnson was the same strength of Harriet Tubman. The apple did not fall far from the tree.

It was a true honor to speak to a direct descendant of Harriet Tubman. If you're ever in Auburn Ny, take the time to visit Harriet Tubman's church. Her ghost just might come out and say hello...
