Try the best ice cream in Nafplion
Walk in the old town
My last post was about the city of Patras. And when I wrote that text, I had a desire to once again recall the city of Nafplion.
This place made me very happy. I have already done several articles about the beach and the fortress that protected the bay. I am still very pleased with the photos from there.
I remember how we sat on the pier, drank beer and looked at the water. And then we went along the old streets of the city.
The city is very beautiful and rich in history.
The significance of the city is already evidenced by the fact that it was known since the days of pre-Homer Greece, and Noseplius, the son of Poseidon, is considered its mythical founder. Nafplion also became the first capital of independent Greece, and it was here that the first Greek president, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was once killed by the conspirators.
The special charm of the settlement is largely due to the stay of the Venetians, who left their mark on the appearance of the present center. Thanks to their efforts, the city acquired a very special look and harmoniously fit into the surrounding nature.
The old buildings of Nafplion do not look dilapidated, but give it the unique combination of majesty and comfort that the Venetian builders were so famous for.
Now the old city is a lot of small streets completely covered with shops and cafes. Narrow streets are decorated with very bright colors and objects.
Together with the bright rays of the sun and deep shadows, this whole picture created for me an amazingly bright world.
I would like to return to this city, which, by the way, was even once the official capital of Greece.
In addition to the city itself, there is also the castle of Palamidi. This is a large fortress on a rock, though at that time I was not able to visit this place. I just enjoyed the views of the fortress over the city.
And on these little streets there is a place where ice cream is made. And they say that the best ice cream in Greece is made in Nafplion, namely, in a cafe with the Italian name "Antica Zheateriya di Roma". In addition, the city is famous for its fish taverns “Savuras” and “Arapakos”, as well as many establishments specializing in grill, meat dishes and Italian cuisine.
I want to go back to Nafplion!
