Introducing myself - Get to know me

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa; I studied a management accounting degree, but realised soon after completing the 4 year course, that an office job was most definitely not making me happy. I packed my bags and headed to Hanoi, Vietnam where I taught English and saved money for my South American dream journey.

My adventure started in Bogota, Colombia. The plan was to cycle southwards to Patagonia, with absolutely no time limit, but very much financially constrained.

Everything changed when I arrived on the coast of Ecuador after 2000 km in Colombia. A mega-earthquake shook up my plans, and I decided to use the little money I had, to volunteer in the affected areas, helping where I could. This decision came easily: I felt that after witnessing all the trauma, suffering and struggling I had, turning a blind eye and continuing my simple life on the road would have been a decision I would forever regret. For five months, I dedicated my time and energy to those who are experiencing major loss in the small fishing town of Canoa.

With the help of others, I formed an organisation- The Youth Motivation Association - providing alternative, fun-based education and healthy distractions for the children who were last on the priority list after the terrible natural disaster. YMA was well received and supported, and has a sustainable program in place run by local leaders through the town’s public library under the name of Alegrate Canoa..

After my time in Ecuador, I spent a month in the Peruvian desert surfing and shooting photos in Lobitos- the Land of Lefts.

My journey took me on a twenty day boat trip through the Amazon to Rio de Janeiro where I volunteered at Samba Green Hostel for a month.
I am currently back in the land of milk and honey, South Africa, planning and saving for my next adventure!

I'm a human lover; culture, language and food.
I am a nature enthusiast; user and protector.
I'm an ocean lover; surfer and activist.
I am a memory collector.

I am Bunna.

Here a few tips for starters snce you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?

Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.
