Hello dear friends! Today I am writing to tell about basic security here on Steemit. This includes: discovering the purpose of each key, their functions and restrictions and some tips on keeping your master password safe. In addition, we're going to discuss how to transfer STEEM to other users and power up.

Section 2: Why do you need those keys?

Here are the 4 PRIVATE keys and their functions according to Steemit.

  1. Posting: is used to perform social actions (posting, commenting etc.) and logging in.
  2. Memo: used to decrypt transfer memos (about which we'll talk later).
  3. Active: used for token actions, such as powering up and down (again, soon to be discussed).
  4. Owner or Master password: you can use it to reset all other keys. It is important that you keep it offline at all times. Remember: we don't do Forget password here on Steemit! :)
    Public keys are not so hidden and are used for encryption of messages. They arw not required to log in.
    You also get a TRON account private key that is used solely to transfer or (un)freeze tokens, or vote for TRON SRs.

Section 3: keeping Master password safe

Master password is a seed phrase that is generated once you create an accpunt and get your keys. Never share it.
To keep you Master password safe:

  1. Use pen and paper: transfer it to some notebook. Written passwords are mostly better protected.
  2. Do not take schreenshots of it.
  3. Beware of suspicious third-party websites which ask for your Steemit credentials.

Section 5: Powering Up

Powering up is one of the most popular transactions on Steemit.
Powering up can make you a club 50/75/100 member. Thus, it is a way to become more popular and to give more money to the authors while curating content.
To power up from Steemwallet:

  1. Navigate to your STEEM balance; again, click on it;
  2. Select Power up;
  3. Enter the amount your want to Power up;
  4. Confirm action by entering your Active key.
