Grades aren't everything...

in #life7 years ago

Hello all, so I've already done a post explaining about my A Level results and going to uni, however i wanted to take a different approach to the subject to try and help those who didn't receive the results they were hoping for.

In-case you didn't know, everything from an E upwards is a pass at A Level; however a lot of universities don't actually accept E's and D's. If you didn't get into your chosen uni then here are several alternatives that you can do:

  • Retakes: Obviously the last thing every A Level student wants to hear is that they have to retake their exams (which they have already laboured over for 2 years). However if you think about it long term, just one more year of doing your A Levels is nothing compared to the whole exciting life you have ahead of you. If you didn't like the subjects that you chose, maybe you could even start afresh and try something completely new which might be more suited to you. After all, we can't all become doctors!

  • Take a foundation year at Uni: A lot of good uni's actually take students who didn't do so well in their exams and allow them to do an extra year (aka a foundation year). It means you can still go to Uni when all your friends are, however you just do an extra year to them. I'm not exactly sure what this entails as I haven't looked into it myself, but I imagine it's just helping you get up to the right standard that you'll need to be at in order to achieve well at your degree level.

  • Do an apprenticeship/go straight into employment: I actually know people who didn't do A Levels at all, they just did exactly this. Let me tell you one of my friend's stories to give you a little inspiration, but obviously there are countless opportunities and these won't be the only ones if they don't interest you! My friend went to the British Racing School in New Market and then went on to begin to train to become a jockey! She's now renting a house and doing really well for herself!

What I'm trying to get at in this post, is that GRADES AREN'T EVERYTHING. You can have a successful career and do well for yourself in life without good grades. Let me know in the comments what you thought of this post and I hope that despite all this, those receiving their results were happy with what they got. Please upvote this post if you enjoyed reading it, as well as giving it a resteem, as it would really help me out! Make sure you follow me if you want to read similar posts in the future. As always, I hope you have a great day where ever you are in the world and thanks so much for reading. xx

You are so right, I left school at just about 16, worked for a few years, went back to college and ended up doing a degree.

It all works out in the end :-)
