Hola amigos, it is a pleasure to be part of this week's contest regarding back pain, it is important to know that the back is one of the places we shouldn't joke with therefore we must take care of it properly, if the spinal cord is damaged a human will become useless and die, stay safe friends because health is wealth.
What do you know about back pain?
Back pain can be defined as a physical discomfort occurring anywhere on the back of the spine, which ranges from mild to disabling. This means that the pain is directly on the spinal cord or canals, affecting man's life activities. Back pain can make humans ineffective or less efficient in performing their daily routine. Back makes the flow of blood of food substances hard because the spine is not in good shape.

To be honest I have had back pain before. It happened the day we were frying Garri/cassava flakes. One day, after pealing the cassava the day after we had to fry the Garri. When frying the Garri, you will have to keep your back bent in the forward direction while frying, which puts the back in that position; having to fry more cassava flakes means the pain caused by staying in the position increases.
On this day, I was helping my mother in frying the Garri alone, I had to do it all by myself because my brother was sick, and the little ones could not fry because they were still little. So when frying, I had to stretch my back, but the pain increased because after frying a huge amount of Garri, I had to carry some load on my head, and the distance was also far; after getting home, I got tired and didn't want to bath at all, but I had to.
I took my bath and slept with the pain, waking up by 9:00 am and discovering that my back was still painful. I had to tell my mom to use hot water to massage my back, and after the massage, my back was getting better. The bones are not meant to stay in a particular position for too long. I had neck pain two days ago, and it was because I didn't sleep in a good position.
What are the causes and symptoms of back pain?
Back pain can be caused by fractures. The fractures in vertebrae, which are mostly caused by osteoporosis and trauma, are the major causes of severe back pain. It can likewise be caused by injuries like ligament sprains and muscle strains which are usually caused due to the lifting of heavy objects improperly and sudden awkward movements. Injuries can also be herniated or bulging discs; this has to do with the cushions between vertebrae rupturing or bulging, which can press the nerve and cause pain to the spine.
Stress can also cause back pain; when the human body overwork and does things that are beyond its capability, it leads to pain in various parts of the body, even the neck. Arthritis can also cause pain and stiffness in the back. Lack of exercise can also cause back pain, especially when the back muscles are weak, which makes you open injuries and pain. Poor posture can also cause strain in the back muscles and then lead to pain. Obesity can also cause pain because there will be too much weight, which can put more strain on the back, causing severe pain.
Infections that affect the spine or surrounding tissue can cause great pain and inflammation as well. Some people have kidney problems like kidney stones and some other kidney conditions that can cause pain which are similar to back pain, if the spinal cord is narrow it can compress nerves, which then creates pain and radiation in the legs
SYMPTOMS
Back pain has a lot of symptoms, like the stiffness of the backbone refusing to turn as it used to, most especially in the morning. For someone who is experiencing back pain, we feel weak in the legs and feet. Muscle spasms are capable of causing pain and also make it hard to move. Weight loss and fatigue are also some symptoms of back pain.
How can we prevent and treat back pain?
To prevent and treat back pain, we have to practice the following: regular exercise, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, good posture, lifting techniques, avoid smoking, and managing our weight. Here is a perfect explanation of these factors.
If we engage in regular exercise, including exercise like swimming, walking, or cycling, and some physical activities that strengthen the core and back muscles, we will reduce our risk of back pain. When we maintain a good weight, our body is in good shape because being overweight is capable of adding more stress on the back, which is why maintaining a healthy weight is essential. Maintaining a proper posture while standing, sitting, and lifting will help reduce the strain on the back, thereby preventing back pain.
The act of incorrectly lifting objects has been the major cause of back pain during the present day. So, while we lift heavy objects, we are expected to bend our knees and make sure that our back is straight and also hold the load close to our body, which will make it easier to lift things and, most importantly, prevent back pain. The consistent attitude of smoking can worsen back pain and also delay healing, which means we have to quit the act in other to maintain an overall well-being because smoking destroys the lungs and the immune system.
To prevent back pain, we also have to stretch our body constantly because it can help improve the bone's flexibility and reduce muscle tension, which is an alternative way of avoiding back pain. We also have to get a good night's rest because early sleep means early rise; a good sleep yields good health and performance. Having a great sleeping position and a mattress will aid in the prevention of back pain. We can likewise reduce stress to prevent back pain through yoga and other medications.
TREATMENT
We can treat back pain by imitating the following.
Resting: rest is very essential to avoid prolonged bed rest and properly increase activities as tolerated. The act of resting provides the body with energy to keep on going. We can make use of pain relievers or muscle relaxers which aid in the management of pain. We should also learn to engage in physical therapy, where we can learn from our therapist some exercises while helping to strengthen the back and improve our posture. As I said earlier, my mother had to massage my back to reduce the pain. Massage helps to relax the tension in the muscle and improve blood circulation.
When the back pain doesn't improve with home treatment, we have to seek the advice of a medical doctor to help treat it before it progresses to a worse situation. We can also follow the heat and cold way of relieving pain and inflammation by making use of a cold heat pack. Yoga can help solve pain problems through its ability to help improve posture, strength, and flexibility, which can also be of benefit for back pain.
