Dreams

in #writing8 years ago

Today, I want to talk about dreams. I've had tons of dreams in my life, some good, some scary, some beautiful. The beautiful ones are easily forgotten anyway.

Let me share some of the weird ones with you. Enjoy, or not. LOL.

In the dream I was in a strange place filled with strange people. I was very aware in the dream and I couldn't remember what I came there to do. It looked like a prayer session was going on or something. Then, someone was nailing something into my palm. I woke and realised that my head was at the foot of the bed. I said a word of prayer and went back to sleep. I had series of migraines days later.

I was lying with my head at the foot of the bed when I picked up my phone to make a call. I started thinking of other things. I was tired too and somehow I slept off. This time, I dreamt of my paternal grandmother. She died when I was fourteen. The dream was filled with strange people too but I recognised some faces. Then the people were not there anymore and I was dreaming of her mother before her. I don't know how I knew it was her. Ask me now and I can't describe what she looked like. I forced myself out of the dream this time.

I'm reading John Grisham's The Pelican Brief - the epub, on my phone. I read about ten pages, close it and plug in my phone to charge. I close my eyes and try to rid my mind of thoughts. Three minutes later, I slide into sleep and then into a dream - only that it doesn't feel like a dream. It feels real, more like a trance.

In this dream, I'm hiding from something. It doesn't look human though it has legs and it walks. I don't know what it is. The upper part of my body is naked. It's so cold, almost freezing. Everywhere is dry. There's no rain, no snow. The trees are green and cheerful but the cold is there. I feel it's bite. I'm lying on top of what looks like a tree, pretending to be dead. The thing I'm hiding from finds me and calls my name. No, not my real name. A name I won't remember when I wake, but it sounds familiar to me at the moment. I keep still, eyes wide shut. The thing reaches where I am and touches my arm. I don't move. I can feel myself freezing and my breath leaving me.

'She's dead,' the thing says to someone. I try to release the breath I don't realise I'm holding until now but I can't. I feel dead. Only my mind is active. The thing leaves me and joins it's companion. They get on a boat and sails away. I begin to work my arms and legs. They're so stiff. My eyes open first, then my arms begin to move. I raise my head and manage to sit up. I see my dress lying beside me. I pick it up and pull it over your head. I stand on wobbly legs and am about to climb down from the tree when I wake.

Now, this happened to me. I woke up cold and with a dry throat. I couldn't move my arms. It took me minutes before I could swallow. I had to touch my body to make sure I wasn't freezing. My body was warm except my legs. They were so cold.
