Whatcha Gonna Do With All That Stuff?

in #life7 years ago

How do you explain the countless folks who seem to have nothing in terms of monetary or tangible wealth, but are happy as hell?

That's because their outlook on success involves none of that.

Self-worth and success should be separate.

Folks get this confused all the time and set themselves up for feeling like a failure. How did we get this so confused? Maybe we listen to society too much or what the media shows us. Maybe our parents got it wrong. They may have either inadvertently or purposely raised us to believe that self-worth is based on accomplishments and fiscal success only.

Self-worth comes from within.

It is based on the value you have of yourself. It's about being a good person; a decent human being. Are you authentic, honest and real? Do you have integrity? Do you believe in your abilities and have confidence in who you are?

This by no means has anything to do with being perfect.

There is no moral absolute. Self-worth is every bit about also absolutely knowing your flaws and owning them as well; but understanding that having flaws doesn't automatically make you less than.

Your job, your car, your house nor your bank account have zero to do with your self-worth.

You can have the best of the material world and still have no self-worth. You can have all of that and still be extremely unhappy. Sometimes folks will chase those things in order to gain self-worth and they may even feel fulfilled...momentarily. That's just a fix. A short-term feel-good. If you don't love who you are at your core; if you don't accept that; material gains won't suffice.

Take a step back and look at all of your true riches.

Do you draw in people that love and support you? Do you love and support others? Do you give back and pay it forward? Maybe you make the best tuna sandwich and your kids won't eat anyone else's! No matter how big or small; you are enough. Tap into that and love all of it.
