Love Me, Please? Stencil Acrylic Painting & the Reason I Don't Own Pets

in #art7 years ago

I don't have pets, be it dogs or cats. Don't get me wrong. I love animals, it's just that I don't want to keep them. Why? To own a pet is a full time responsibility. It's a commitment. Home pets rely on their humans for their well-being for the rest of their lives. And this is the responsibility that I am not willing (or not ready) to take.

This is my conviction: if you want to keep a pet, be responsible for it. Take good care of it. Spay it, vaccinate it, spend time with it, love it. In short - love comes with responsibility. If you can't commit to this responsibility, just don't.

See, things are often done differently in the third world.

People have pets but they don't give proper care to them. Sometimes they caged their pets or leave them outside - not spayed or vaccinated. The cats and dogs are left to roam wherever they want. Because they are not spayed the strays population becomes uncontrollable. And they catch diseases from strays too. Diseases such as rabies. And the rabid dogs/cats may bit their owners and without vaccination and immediate care, the owners may die a couple of months after being bitten.

Why am I sounded so bitter?

Because I am.

I am upset with these irresponsible pet owners. They said they love animals and yet they don't take care of their pets properly! These people shouldn't be allowed to keep pets unless they can prove that they are committed in giving top-notch care for their pets.

And that is why I don't have pets. Not because I don't love them but it's because I can't guarantee I can give them love and care they fully deserved.

See that painting up there?

It's a painting of a very sad bull dog. It is sad because its owner doesn't care and love it properly. Its eyes are begging for attention and understanding. If it can talk, it certainly say those very words, "love me, please?"

This painting is a part of a series of dog paintings that I am currently working on. You can read about the first painting here: SAC: What's Up Dog Stencil Acrylic Painting . I hope to put up these paintings for sale on Steemarket.com soon. Anyone interested? All sold paintings will come with 4 free coloring postcards (line art by me) :)

You have a very good point about the pets owning.
I guess it all come back to mindset on how people treat their pets as.
Some actually treat them as family, others treat them as guards; and some, both .
You are right that when a person is not ready for commitment one should not have such responsibility, but that is where it is the same as human relationship as well, isn't it?
Yet, this is part of life is it not? Community, relations, connection.
This is what we are from the core, not what we can do; those are our fruits .
You have a very interesting and thought provoking article, as for me I too love animals yet I love travelling or I tend to stay out of the house more than in the house. This actually will help me to think whether in the future I should have a pet with me or not, no matter how much I like animals.

But one thing for sure, when we have someone to look after, our characters will change at the same time, maybe more inclusive.

Whether it is a good thing or a bad thing, it is for us to decide at the long run. :)

Thank you for your kind words @littlenewthings . The way we view pets are very different from those in developed countries. Many of us view pets, dogs especially as guards like you mentioned and in many rural areas as great hunting companions. Whereas in developed countries pets are companions, and often treated as family members. It all comes down to our mentality. There are many things I wanted to write in the above post but I refrained from doing so because some people (my family members who may read it) may get offended with my view. I will check out the discord channel when I am infront of my computer and I am giving you a follow too 🙂

Αwesome!! Well done :) And I agree with you. Love comes with responsibility.

Exactly. If can't commit, just don't do it :(

Looks so cool😍. Keep it up

I agree love comes with responsibility.
Beautiful art as always :)

Thank you. Yes it does. It's heartbreaking to see the strays roaming around and I tend to look away because I feel so helpless :(.

I also really like your art I love the swirling around the dog, great colors!

Please reply, and I will nominate your post to the @OCD Team!

Sure go ahead @ma1neevent :) and thank you! Having pets is like having kids when they were young. Like young kids, pets need constant care. But kids grew older and they could do things on their own whereas pets rely of their humans for the rest of their lives.

Beautiful art, my daughter like drawing, she often draw anime and doodle. I'll post her creativity later. Thank you for posting this painting and lesson learn about how we should treat our pets

Thank you @rayfa ... I would love to see your daughter's art. I am sure they are fantastic :)
