House cats are wonderful creatures with their innocent eyes and slender, athletic bodies, similar to a small lion. But unlike lions, cats are adorable and can be your best friend. No matter how sad you are, the meow of your innocent kitty will make your day a little brighter. It will help you forget some of the pain you're going through. To be honest, I think it works like a magic.

If you've had a pet, you know how beneficial it is to have one in your home. I love dogs too but for some reason, kittens appeal to me more, which is why I'm planning to get a kitten very soon.

That made me wonder what things do I need before I buy a kitten? If you're also considering buying one, you may also be wondering what things you need before buying your first kitten. Let's find out what things we need to get started.

1 - Food and water bowls

When you bring your kitten home, it might be hungry for food. How will you serve this cute kitty some food? That's why it's recommended to have food and water bowls ready in advance. Make sure that the bowls are big enough for your kitten and sturdy enough so they won't flip over when your kitty accidentally runs into them.

In addition to the bowls, make sure that you've bought the right food. You may also want to have milk ready when you bring home a new kitty. Don't let it wait too long to eat, or else it might get scared. The kitten is already leaving its mother and being put into a new environment with people it doesn't know. It's good to give the kitten something to eat so it can keep itself preoccupied.

2 - Kitty litter, poop scoop, and litter box

What goes in must come out. It's not a good idea to let the cat go outside until at least a week or two after you take it home. It needs to first become acclimated to its new surroundings. It will probably take some time for it to adjust to the new environment. If you don't let your kitten adjust to its new home before letting it outside, you may lose it.

It's better to have a kitty litter before you bring her home. A kitty litter contains a soft mixture that hardens when it comes in contact with pee or poop. Some litter will even have scent killers to mask any foul scents. Instead of going outside, the kitten will prefer to do whatever she wants to do in the kitty litter. In as little as a few hours, you can scoop out the hardened clay and fill it with new litter.

3 - A small bed

This is a no-brainer. Instead of buying a bed after bringing your kitty home, you should grab one in advance to make sure that you spend as much time as possible with your kitty. The more time you can spend together, the more quickly the kitten will feel comfortable. We all need sleep and so does your new kitty.

Make sure that the bed is not oversized and soft enough for the kitty to feel comfortable. Kittens like a bed where they can hide and spend some time alone without interruption. Make sure that your bed provides that environment to your kitten.

Adopting a kitten and taking care of her on a daily basis will pay you many dividends in return. She will pay you everything back and more with unconditional love. A playful kitty adds a lot of happiness to your family. Trust me!
