Apple-Bees

Hey everyone, a little ambiguous?? Well technically this is 100% what this is. I never thought these bees would forage the freshly foraged apples. The birds pull in and ravage the Apples in our orchard, the bees then pop in for a sneaky munch too...

This was quiet an interesting phenomenon, generally bees only forage flowers in season however in the drier times they need to get resourceful and here they are doing just that!

In this orchard we have Persimmons and Apples which the bees love to forage, naturally they are not able to pierce the thick skin on the Persimmon and Apples, so they rely on the birds for that, nature working in perfect synergy!

We harvested around 15kgs of honey 2 weeks ago. The fascinating thing about harvesting in Autumn is there is way less water/hydration for the bees resulting in thicker honey, this then in turn results in the honey crystalizing faster which can be a problem to bottle!

This last pic I took a few minutes after taking these bee shots. I harvested a nice heirloom mielie and two carrots for dinner out the vegetable patch, they look tasty right?
