Hublot Smartwatch for the World Cup - Your Thoughts?

in #technology6 years ago

I recently received the Hublot Smartwatch as a gift from a client. First of all, I'm not really a smart watch kind of guy. Second of all, this Hublot Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia edition leaves a lot to be desired, even as a smartwatch!

If you've ever been to our store in Miami and we got to speak in person, you know how I feel about the Hublot brand of luxury watches in general. One particular thing that irks me about them is their insistence on making a limited edition for practically everything under the sun. Why can't they just design models for more horological purposes or just because they're cool?

Nooooo...they always seem to be single-minded on releasing watches to commemorate a famous person or special event. Limited edition for this! Limited edition for that! This smartwatch is no different. It is dedicated to the 2018 World Cup (where Hublot was the “Official Timekeeper”). I mean, I like the World Cup, but why do I really need a watch to know when a red or yellow card has been issued?

Actually, LVMH is the same global luxury conglomerate that owns both TAG Heuer and Hublot. But it comes to the Hublot smartwatch, I feel as if the company just took a TAG Heuer smart watch and added a Hublot case to it; same man, different suit!

As far as the performance and navigation of the watch are concerned, the whole experience was a pretty “choppy” one. The watch kept getting partially stuck as I tried navigating through it's LCD menu.

Regarding the value retention of the watch, I don't think it has much of it. Just think about it...If you can pick up a regular Hublot Big Bang (which qualifies as an actual “luxury” watch) with a $15k retail value for around $5,000, what do you think is going to happen with the market price of a smartwatch that retails for $5k (the current retail value of the watch)?!

When it comes to battery life, the watch can function for the entire day with only an hour and a half of charge. Nevertheless, for $5,000, I would rather pick up a Rolex Submariner and an Apple Watch (iWatch for the purists).

Do you share my extreme level of excitement when it comes to the Hublot World Cup Smartwatch or the Hublot brand in general (sarcastic chuckle)?
