NeedleWorkMonday - Sewing Class - First Project Continues...

It’s a beautiful #NeedleWorkMonday! Welcome everyone! Last sewing class I spent all my time pinning and cutting out the pieces for the baby bunting. My daughter just finished sewing up the bear and was ready for her next step. Today’s post is from our last class right before Thanksgiving break. We decided we would pick back up after the holidays. We still have yet to resume our classes. We had a couple of bad weather days last week so we decided to stay in.

Here’s what took place before our break...

Pinning Cut Pieces Together

So what you see is the bunting starting to come together...the back, front and arm pieces. I’ll have to admit, reading the pattern for this part made me dizzy. I started getting discouraged because it actually was like rocket science. The pattern language was from a different world and I felt so lost. My mom took the time to put the pieces together for me while she explained it. I was just too confused to even begin to try. After she explained it and I saw it come together it made more sense. Maybe next time I’ll do all of the steps on my own. 😌

Afterwards I started sewing the pinned pieces together per the pattern. It took me the rest of the night to do this. My brain was tired and I really didn’t want to do this part but I also didn’t want to leave without accomplishing something.

Finishing Pauly Bear

So here we are with the bear turned right side out. Before stuffing it my daughter had to put on the eyes and nose. We went to Hobby Lobby to buy a bear kit that came with everything you need to attach the eyes and nose.

They placed straight pins on the bear to mark where the eyes and nose would go. My mom demonstrated how to insert the first eye.

She started the hole for my daughter to insert the second eye.

Snapped in and secured.

My daughter learned that stuffing your work reveals your mistakes. As she was going along she noticed quite a few gaps in the bear from missing some spots while sewing. She started to get discouraged and felt like she didn’t do a good job. We reassured her she is doing excellent for beginning sewing and she won’t always hit the mark on the very first try. My mom told her to just get a needle and thread and hand sew those parts back together and it will be okay.

And it was :) Here she is standing proud as she awaits the creation of her mouth.

She had a lot of fun doing this part. My mom hand drew the mouth on with marker to help guide her. She wanted the eyes and mouth to match so she picked a yellow thread and began...

Wow, Pauly bear came out great!!
haha, I wonder if she will try to sell him as well... ;D

Thank you! Haha I wouldn’t be surprised if she does. She did mention she was thinking about “giving” her to her cousin because she wanted to make a better one lol! She’s something else. 😄

She sounds hilarious and sharp as a tack!!
Gotta love kids like that, always keeping life interesting! :D

Yes absolutely! 😄

That bear is so cute, I love it, I remember helping my Mum to make one similar to this for me when I was a young lad ;)

Thank you! That’s really cool that you remember that. Thanks for checking it out!

It just came to mind while reading your post so thanks for the memory

Such a great way to have these bonds created within your family. Your bunting is going to turn out so cute, and it sounds like you are learning a lot from the process. And the Pauly Bear has the sweetest smile! ❤❤❤

Thank you @jamethiel! I sure hope it does, I look forward to finishing it. I really am learning quite a bit, I hope my brain can keep up lol!

Oh, that bear needs a scarf, @crosheille ! Actually, he also needs a hat, a blanket and a bed - oh, so many memories of making toys and then making a whole wardrobe for them :D

You know that is a great idea @cryptocariad! I will pass along this idea to her and see if she maybe wants to try to crochet or sew some accessories! 😃

Thank you ~

You look good, you're a good teacher, excellent class.

Thank you @carolinacardoza! My mom is really doing well teaching both of us :)

Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I’ll pass along the message :D
