Fictional Story: The Walking Houses of Dranixia
At the dawn of 11th Millennia, a solar bomb was dropped in the city of Vieta, which, along with the city, inadvertently destroyed the whole atmosphere of Dranixia. This effectively ended the Great War of the final century. Nobody remembers now, who waged the war first. One barely remembers the countries of those times. All we know is that at the start of the final century of 10th Millennia, our species Humos found a way to harness and store the unlimited energy provided by our star, Sol, into a meter tall cell. An invention that was meant to take our species to a great height, but instead led to our doom.
The struggle for survival in the present, eventually made our species ignorant towards the past and the future. The only thing we know for sure is that one side got more desperate than the other and unleashed the power of thousands of Solar cell on a single city. So much energy was released in such a short time that even the molecules of atmosphere broke apart, causing a chain reaction that spreading through three-quarters of our planet. Most of the Humanity died within an hour. The rest of it had to find shelter before the remaining atmosphere cover spread too thin to protect them. That’s when they decided to move temporarily into the unused War Mecha Bots. Their outer shell was thick enough to protect them from the unshielded heat of our Sol.
As the atmosphere spread thin, our planet’s gravitational pull wasn’t strong enough to keep the atmosphere around herself. Our species had to come up with a way to produce air necessary for our survival fast or else the remaining would’ve died of suffocation. That’s how one of the Bots was modified into Air Harvester. It took in the mineral from Dranixia’s ground and using the solar cell’s power, extracted the necessary compounds and elements required for our own air. But as one problem was solved, another one cropped up. With the Sol glaring down our planet unprotected, the solar cells in each bot was at risk of exploding. So, it was decided that throughout the day the bots will move in such a way so that only a certain intensity of Sol ray fell upon it. Only the Air Harvester remained unmoved so that it could use extra energy to produce more air.
As time went on, people become more comfortable in their temporary shelters and eventually modifications were made to make them permanent houses. Throughout the day these Bot houses moved, trying to keep themselves under the ‘paradise’ zone, returning back to air harvester at night. Few of the bots were assigned to growing food. Which mostly consisted of surviving livestock and a limited number of vegetables. Some were exploratory bots, looking for the useful resource like underground water after all of the surface water evaporated.
I am the pilot of our exploratory bot, occupied by my family. In search of water, we took on a journey to the North Pole. There is a wrinkled photo, on our deck, in which bots are being used in war. A reminder of how an instrument of war has become a walking house of salvation.
