Hello Everyone,
https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/share-your-battle-weekly-challenge-horny-toad
First of all, I would like to tell that, the new screenshot for Splinterlands Weekly Share Your Battle blog looks something fresh from those earlier one although I still love the previous one we used to :)
The monster featured in this week's challenge Horny Toad is once again among less used ones although it has some nice abilities, but I think the health and melee attack are on the negative side for not using it much I think.
Anyways, we have to do the honors for this monster as part of this week's challenge and let's see a bit about this first before we go into battle section.
Horny Toad is the Untamed edition common neutral melee monster with couple of exciting abilities like reach and poison.
The details of attack, health and speed along with details of abilities are shown in below screenshot and explained further.
Attack:
As we can see above, Horny Toad has the melee attack, which is on lower side starting with 1 and increases to 2 from level 4 and increases to a maximum of 3 in the final level i.e. 8th level.
Speed:
The speed is also on lower side, but good enough towards higher levels.
It starts with speed of 1 in first level, but increases to 2 in second level and to 3 in third level until seventh. From eighth level onwards, it holds it's best speed of 4 and should be a lethal one to use then in terms of speed and abilities.
Health:
Health is low too to start with for this monster with starting health as 2 and increases to 3 from level 5 and increases to maximum of 4 from penultimate level i.e. ninth level.
Abilities:
This is by far the best part of this monster as it posses 2 good abilities in Reach and Poison.
Reach:
As we know, melee monsters can only attack from front position unless there is a melee mayhem or super sneak battle type.
But, the reach ability enables a monster to attack from even second position and helps a lot to reduce burden on the front monster.
Poison:
Poison ability is already a well known one where in, a monster with this ability will be able to poison the monster it attacks and that reduces the health of a monster at the beginning of each round.
Lineup:

I specifically wanted to use Horny Toad in a battle involving Super Sneak or Melee Mayhem because of it's low health as this can be used in the middle and protect it from early attack and to my luck, I got a battle as shown above with 20 mana cap and Super Sneak battle type.
So, how did I fill that 20 mana with monsters for Super Sneak battle? below are the details of lineup to answer that!!!
1. Phantasm:
This was the front monster for this battle for it being a flying monster, has increased chances of evading attack from melee and ranged monsters and it's speed of 5 makes it to attack early with it's health of 7 is good to last a bit longer.
2. Haunted Spirit:
Another monster with 7+ health and an attack of 3 makes it more usable and I chose this for second position as back up front monster.
3. Horny Toad:
This monster of this week's theme, forced me to use it in the middle of the lineup because of it's low health of 2 and even the attack of 2.
4. Creeping Ooze:
Used this in fourth position not for it's attack although it can give a melee attack, but for it's slow ability and also since I was left with a mana to cover the 20 mana cap.
5. Furious Chicken:
A vacant position even after covering the mana led me to use this in fifth position as I had planned to use the flying Cocatrice in the last position. It's 1 melee attack will be a bonus in the low mana battles with super sneak or melee mayhem enabled.
6. Cocatrice:
Last position was filled with this flying monster for it's known ability of evading melee attack most of the time!!! when used in the front or last position in melee mayhem or super sneak battles.
That seemed a better lineup for me for the mana cap we had.
Opponent had used Death Splinter too and his lineup with monsters Animated Corpse, Spineback Wolf, Cursed Slimeball, Haunted Spider, Twisted Jester and Furious Chicken.
Battle:
Round 1:
This low mana battle went upto 6 levels since most of the melee monsters attack was reduced to 1 due to usage of Death Splinter.
Since this was a Super Sneak battle, the monsters from back end of the lineup need to be stronger and opponent had Furious Chicken and Twisted Jester as last 2 monsters and both were removed in this round.
Round 2:
The Cocatrice I placed at the back end, helped me to restrict the removal of my monsters as Cocatrice kept evading some of the attacks and just like in first round, in this round also there were 2 monsters lost from opponent's lineup and this time it was Haunted Spider and Cursed Slimeball.
Meanwhile, Creeping Ooze from my lineup was also removed as it got some thorns* thrown at it by Spineback Wolf.
Round 3:
Not much loss of monsters in this round, there was only that Cocatrice losing out and other monsters survived for another round.
Round 4, 5, 6 and 7:
In these 4 rounds, Spineback Turtle kept evading the attack until last round and kept removing a monster in each round, but eventually, Haunted Spirit was able to remove the Spineback Turtle.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Yes, although a bit scary in the end when Spineback Turtle kept evading the attack, but in the end, I won it!!!
I felt, I should have loaded another monster with dodge or thorn ability, but as long as I won it, I was OK.
Do you use the HORNY TOAD often? Why or why not?
Nope, I don't use it much since there are couple of better Reach monsters are there and I am happy using those.
That was some battle with each of the monsters playing their part including the Horny Toad :)
Thank You :)
