Dear Diary: My Ideas Of HomeSteading I Wanted To Do

in #untalented7 years ago (edited)

For mysefl I wanted to be self-sufficient if possible. The way I wanted to do it firstly is to prepare myself or the house with such appliances that can run on batteries like television or if not is to make the use a solar power which could be an off-grid type which means that it doesn't take or get power from the outside sources because the power is set to be sufficient enough for the needs of the household.

Having a solar-powered home would save us a lot of electricity bills because the energy that we will be using will come from the rays of the sun and then with some circuitry, will be saved to the batteries which then can be used for our lighting and other energy dependent appliances.

Also, having a backyard which we can use to raise some egg-laying chickens for example that can give us some eggs and meat is excellent. Their manure can also be a very good source of fertilizer which we then can use for our vegetables.

Some plots of our backyard or land can be an ideal place to plant some leafy vegetables that we can use for our food or at least supplement our dishes with high nutritional value green leafy vegetables which are relatively easy to grow even in tight spaces.

Growing vegetables can be just so simple and even in water bottles we can do it by just germinating seeds of lettuce or other green vegetables in which we can manufacture sprouts that then we then can use for our salads and other food dishes, no need for soil only water bottles will do.

Chicken manure is actually a very logical idea.

How are you @cryptopie? I missed your posts lately, hope you are well.
I tried to grow a lettuce from stump last week, it died after 3 days. I should start from seeds right?
I wish getting a solar powered house was that easy in the Philippines, I would be so nervous if people would be trying to steal the cells our from our roof while we sleep. Its good though you can sell back to Meralco any excess electricity you are not able to consume monthly and you can earn from it.

Me too! And I'm working on it. Lots of great ideas you have.

I'm really keen on Aquaponics (combines fish & veg & hydroponics)
Currently I'm working on programs for Arduino system control / management.
I know you don't have much bandwidth, but if you have time maybe have a look at these ideas.

Those are a lot of good ideas, but most of all, good plans to see a brighter future. Our goals always make us move and take actions that make us feel well, alive!!! I send you a great hug, and the best for all your projects!!! Much Love and Light!!! :D

Like the post and idea as well! I charge my phone with solar energy! It is a good feeling

Never stop dreaming. I long for a large farm to do all these things but i only have a small garden. BUT its amazing what you can fit in - i have veggies, chicken and quail. Have you thought about microgreens? Just seed and water and you eat those yummy shoots after only a few days. :)
