More Tree Hollows

in #hollows7 years ago (edited)

Here is another Tree hollow in a Box Tree in Queensland. This is likely a large hollow in the trunk of the tree which would be perfect for many types of birds and animals because it only has a small entrance so will be safe from larger predators. I suspect that micro Bats would find this hollow good for resting during the day. They are only active during the night. The video explains more.

Nature has its own way of protecting others :)

Nice old tree with a lot of memories! Have you ever tried listening to the tree trunk? Especially big, old trees; I was quite surprised the first time II tried this. It's just amazing. Trees in Australia must have lots of stories to tell, I would like to know their song lines of the past.
Cheers.

Yes, i agree, it would be interesting to know their stories.

Honestly tree hollows like this one are quite impressive especially if they have some little birdies in them hehe.

@ctrl-alt-nwo,
That tree has a hollow but not death! Thank you very much for sharing the mystery of nature with us! Really appreciate your effort!

Cheers~

This Box Tree I take is Eucalyptus. I know most trees native to Australia are Eucalyptus, but are there exceptions?

We have many native tree and plants here other than Eucalypts. I will do some more posts soon on this, It's nearly Springtime soon, and many native plants will be in flower.

That would be cool.

How does this happen?

It can happen when trees sustain damage from fires, lightening strike, animal damage, insect damage, disease, etc. The tree hollows can take 50 to 100 years to form, so you only find them in very old trees.
