What is love?
Love is the answer to the problem of human existence. Fromm explains that if we have love, then at that moment we are threatened by the existence of a condition called separation. As social beings, humans will feel an alien feeling, loneliness to anxiety. Therefore, love is a "cure" for human beings overcoming separateness. In addition, Fromm also affirms that true love is not a passive act, but rather focuses on the active act of "giving."
Furthermore, it is explained about the love of parents and children. When a baby is born, of course he does not yet have the strength to survive so that he will be afraid. To overcome these fears babies feel positive from the warmth and food that comes from the mother. So over time, the baby will understand that he is getting love without having to do anything. Because it was affirmed by Fromm that mother's love is the highest and holy kind of love because in reality, the mother not only loves her growing child but has loved her ever since the condition that the child relies heavily on when she was a baby.
