365 Days That Count - Day 224 - Oh how times have changed! A weekend full of friends...and their babies! 🌸

in #life7 years ago (edited)

A few years ago we would've spent Saturdays getting drunk, throwing name and curing hangovers with junk food. Although I must admit that is still my reality fairly regularly there are a big group of my friends who now enjoy a very different one.

One of my oldest school friends and wildest partying companions is now a dad and his little boy - who is ridiculously cute - turned one on Saturday. His baby mama put on a beautiful celebration at home with friends, family and a whole lot of babies. As another friend pointed out, every baby there was a whoopsie but what beautiful little surprises they all turned out to be and what an amazing job of standing up to the challenge all our friends have done.

I think when they're still so little the birthday parties are more for the parents than anything else. I can only imagine how hard the first year of parenting must be and these two are doing a fabulous job.

Little Jack is healthy, happy and taking on the world more and more each day. He is surrounded by love, adored by all of his parents friends and spoilt rotten by his grandparents! He is so chilled, so funny and so so cute! I must admit seeing men with babies makes me more than a little broody and watching the group of smitten men cooing over gurgling little balls of joy was enough to get me hormonal! Luckily there was one couple who are nearly as far from parenthood as I am and after a few hours and when Kayla and I could no longer bear to watch the boys and babies for fear of our "not ready yet" resolve breaking, we went up the road for lunch and wine, cause you can do that without babies!

Kayls and I grew up together, our parents are old friends and I used to live between her pool and playroom when we came to Cape Town from England each summer.

At the time we lived in Camps Bay on the other side of the mountain from where we are now and since moving I don't see nearly as much of her so getting some quality time with her and her gem of a fiancé was really special. I filled them in on whats going on in my life and we chatted at length about their wedding in December. It's amazing how with some people, time is not important, it doesn't matter how much has past, it's like going home to family and picking up where you left off. I'm very grateful for friendships like that.

I might not be ready for one but I do love babies and right now enjoy the balance of being able to let out my broodiness on my friend's kids and then still go up the road for wine and tapas!

Love,

Daisy xx
