Climate change is real

in Steem Sri Lankalast month

Well, in the past few weeks, we heard many disturbing news across the globe. Apart from the human destruction in several wars in the Middle East, Europe, etc, Mother Nature also seems to be getting angry. Eventhough I am not fond of discussing these war situations with all the politics behind them, these extreme natural disasters are very concerning.

Every continent is facing the effect of unexpected floods/ droughts/wildfires and a few other serious events that can reshape the balance of the earth. So, let's have a small discussion on this.

Flooding in Europe, America, and Asia

I saw several Steemit articles about heavy rain and floods in Indonesia and Bangladesh. In Sri Lanka we witnessed 100mm+ heavy rainfall in the capital and many other districts. This is a kind of late monsoon rainfall due to the creation low-pressure Intertropical Convergence Zone. According to the sources, 3 people were killed, 240+ houses were damaged and over 7000 people had to be removed from their houses. src

Florida, USA also facing a critical situation with hurricanes, strong winds, storms, and flooding. It's said that 300+ deaths occurred this year due to hurricanes and currently millions of people are out of power and gas.

In Bangladesh, more than 100 villages have been affected with at least 10+ deaths src. West and Central Africa including Bosnia, Chad, Nigeria etc, also currently in a heavy threat for flooding.src. At the start of this month Nepal had severe flood causing 200+ deaths as well.

Rains in the Sahara

We know that the Sahara desert and the surrounding area as the most arid places on earth. These areas are experiencing floods after decades and drone images show that dunes have turned into lakes. Some parts of Morocco have received more rainfall in two days than the average amount for an entire year. Under these circumstances, NASA satellite images show that the Sahara is transforming into green life. So, how this will affect the ecosystem of the area and the lifestyle of people? And climate patterns are already changing, which become a concern of scientists. src

Droughts in the Amazon

Things get interesting with this. If you don't understand how climate change affects the ecosystem in the Sahara, it's the same scenario for Amazon, maybe even worse. The region along with Brazil experiencing the worst drought this year, and rivers in the Amazon have fallen to record-low levels. src This gotta be due to the huge deforestation as well. We know that Amazon is just like the heart of mother nature and what will happen to the rich biodiversity of the area and the communities if this continues? And on the the hand, with these two news in Sahara and Amazon, one question arises? The world is in balance, right? So, will these two be interchanged?

Changes in Antarctica

Things get more interesting. Antarctica, the coldest place on the earth, is traditionally one of the most stable ecosystems. Anyway with global warming and climate change, glaciers are melting. And more than that some parts of Antarctica is turning green. According to the reports, plant cover was 1 sqm in 1986, and now it's around, 13 square kilometres, in 2021. Things are accelerating more now. All these things are not only a threat to the native biodiversity, but also the ice exterior which reflects the solar radiation and helps to keep the temperature stable also getting threatened. src

So, my friends! It's not just the short-term weather alerts. Climate change is real and will most probably experience many shifts in weather patterns soon!

So, that's it for today!! Until the next time! Enjoy!

Thank you.
Best Regards!

Climate change has become a very serious problem in today's world. Over the past few years, there has been excessive heat in various countries, including Canada and England, which has resulted in numerous fires in Canada, where many lives have been lost.

Even in our Bangladesh last year the temperature rose to 42°C but the average temperature was between 36-38°C. As a result the road pitch was melting with the wheels of cars, then imagine how bad the situation was.

Moreover, the terrible flood that occurred in our country last August, 16 districts of the country were completely submerged in water, even the district where I live is one of the highest districts of our country, but still there was a terrible flood in our area and there was regular rain for four to five days continuously.

All of us should be personally aware now together shoulder to shoulder to eliminate these acts of climate change. Otherwise the day is not far when our earth will become uninhabitable.

The subtle changes in the climate is accelerating now, and it's a pity that not many people are aware of its severity.

Yep... This is not a sudden change. The long term effect of what people have done in the past decades. While people should educate, I think now the main responsibilities lie with the scientists, to find solutions and protocols to cop with the situation!
