Old Red Sandstone at Ceannabeinne Beach

After leaving Thurso Janice and Paul drove us to Durness, but before we got there we stopped to stretch our legs at Ceannabeinne Beach. It's a very picturesque beach, covered in gorgeous sand and surrounded by ragged coast.

It was really fun to stroll along the sea and play with the waves. The beach is surrounded by cliffs made out of 400 million year old Old Red Sandstone.

I went for a little explore and found a small cave.

It was fun to go inside, as far as possible and then look back at the sea.

It was clear from the large pools surrounding rocks on the beach, that tide often floods this part, most likely reaching even the cave.

This gave me a slightly eerie feeling, especially when one considers the power and size of those waves.

It was time to get back to the car, parked on top of the cliffs and make our way to Durness, leaving this beautiful spot behind.

you are lucky to get the place to your self. this place look so epic.

Well come to North Scotland sometime, the beaches are always pretty deserted. Of course, the temperature rarely gets above 20 (although it has been known), so that might have something to do with it... ;)

Thanks for looking and leaving a comment. :)

This is what I love so much about Scotland! You can find absolutely stunning spots and often there is no one else around. Even when there are other people, they keep their distance because they also enjoy the free space to themselves.

It was a beautiful place. I enjoyed your write up, reminded me of what it was like when we were there. :)

Thanks! Writing about it also reminded me how cool it was. :)
