Is it advisable to send a child to learn skills at tender age?

Skill is your ability to do something. A can either be acquired or learned. Learning a skill in this present time is something that cannot be overemphasized. More often parents do feel their kids have all they need or want thus, they dont see the need for their kids to go learn a skill. This has often been a great mistake on the parts of parents.

I remember vividly how as a kid, I told my dad (of blessed memory) how I have passion to learn how to sew. He felt I wanted to go learn that skill because he wasn't providing enough but that wasn't the case. That wasn't my intention because I just have passion of it as a kid. He however declined my request. All my pleas fell on deaf ears. It took the grace of my Mom and God (also of blessed memory) to convince him to let me go learn that skill. All thanks to my Mom for coming to my aid and also to my dad to having a rethink and granting me the permission to go learn a skill.

It is not only advisable but very important for a child to learn skills at a tender age. Children learn faster at that age. Before they reach adulthood, they will already be masters of their game. They will surely be professionals in what they do.

Many atimes, parents who refuse to send or allow their children to learn a skill often end up regretting why they made such decisions. Skills equip a child to be productive and be self dependent when they become adult.

Surely as the saying goes, "anything that have advantages must have disadvantages also". No doubt, there are disadvantages to sending a child to learn a skill at a tender age. These advantages include:

  1. Stress: Apart from trying to focus on his academics, a child will be faced with having to balance learning a skill with his studies which of course will have some psychological and physical stress on him or her.
  2. Skills getting obsolete as they grow: In this fast evolving era of technology, most skills learnt now will surely become obsolete in few years to come. As a result, children who learn such kind of skills usually discover that they've wasted a lot time and resources to learning an unnecessary skill.

Did you learn a skill at tender age? If yes, relate your experience. If no, state your reasons.

Yes, I learnt a skill at my tender age. I am presently a seamstress. I was actually a very tough experience for me as I will always have to for my tailoring classes every afternoon when I'm back from school. And in the evenings? I have house chores to do, my school uniform to wash and my home work to do before it go to bed. It wasn't really easy but I give God the Glory for giving me the strength to pull through ass I am currently enjoying the fruits of my labour.

We have numerous skills out there to learn at a tender age ranging from soft skills to hands-on-skills. I've seen kids learn coding. Children can also learn graphic design, decors, make-up, content writing and a lot of others.
