Japanese Ice Cream Art In Tokyo | Proof Value & Quality Can Coexist

I have a mission when I go to Tokyo: find the best, most delicious, most affordable, food I can. I've definitely learned since coming to Japan that cost is not a prerequisite of quality. We are fed that belief (pardon the pun) by advertising. The truth in fact, is that delicious and affordable are sexy bed partners, and you only need look to find them engaged together in some illicit act. My partner in crime below agrees with the notion, and grudgingly permits when I film her on the way to finding some of these delicious, if not fully approved by your grandparents, foodstuffs.

Summer lingers in Japan well past August and in to September. I hate Japanese summers. I love that I can keep eating ice-cream (firstworldproblems). We knew that we wanted to get some but we didn't quite know where. I had heard a rumor of an awesome place in downtown Tokyo Shibuya district. Problem was when we arrived there were closed. Ice-cream denied!

Our faith was shaken that we might find the delectable treat that we searched for but both of us were determined to at least give it a few more tries. Luckily there was a cafe literally beside the one that was closed (Japan makes good use of space). We queued up for a very short wait and celebrated our hard/not hard fought for success after facing the failure monster.

I know you've probably heard it many times: Japanese service is amazing. But let me tell you again, it truly is. The staff were perfectly accommodating, the room was immaculate, and the cost of the menu was well beyond reasonable. I often find myself scratching my head wondering how the Japanese pull it off. Seeing that I was recording a video they were more than happy to join in the fun.

But all roughhousing a side we were there to eat some amazing treats and what arrived at the table blew my mind. The bowl of ice-cream was nothing less than a piece of art. The flavors blended together like a well constructed symphony. Each ingredient complimented the other and added to the overall enjoyment. The green you see is actually shaved ice flavoured with matcha (green tea). The foamy quality dollops you see are coffee infused whip. And what would eating ice-cream be without edible flowers garnishing the top.

And the madness of the this whole day out! The cost. This jaw-dropping dessert that you see cost 1200 Yen. That's Roughly equivalent to 12 USD. You can see as well that it's huge. We couldn't actually finish it. That my friends is value. I was trying to guess what this sort of experience would cost where I'm from but I simply couldn't come up with a a fair number. Every aspect was dialed in and at the cost of a small meal from a fast-food chain. It's sorcery I tell you! And I love it.
