ADDICTION - PART 1

INTRODUCTION

Some people, perhaps because of their upbringing have never had the experience of being held and contained. I believe that the root of addiction is profoundly centered in the sense of abandonment and deprivation, also the fundamental rights or needs of human which is security, self esteem and significance is most often threatened.

Perspective of addiction

1.SECURITY : Object of attachment provide a sense of security. Security in that sense could be in form of an idol, a person, a celebrity e.t.c. often times addicts  tend to depend on this to be secure, this leads to deterioration of morals. This kind of dependency also result in the person becoming like who or the thing they worship and are attached to.The higher the addiction erodes the person's life, the more anaesthetised they become to their own feelings and those around them and often times friends and family would always regard them as being selfish with limited awareness of others needs.

2.RIGHTFUL NEEDS : Often times addicts grow from families that do not support being bad and go against fall in moral decadence, but instill individuals who are good, pleasing and looking out for others. And so it is surprising to see a gentle person being addicted to smoking, because it is the last thing you would ever think someone like that would be involved in. As earlier said in the introduction, addicts also have rightful needs for security love and comfort like everyone else -that in the long run have not been met, so they look  comfort in wrong and illegitimate ways.

Part 2 continues tomorrow where i'll talk about ways of solving addictions.
