What Happens When You Use a Protected Name in Your Titles

Yesterday, the gang at Politically Correct released are latest episode.

We set forth to spread our video on all the social sites that we are connected, as we normally do. When Rick tried to post the video link to Google+ accounts and communities, something very odd happened. Where, normally a preview of the video is shown, instead there was nothing.

That's not what is supposed to happen!

For example, when I posted the above mentioned article to twitter. It shows the image preview from the article. The article itself shows the video image preview from the video.

This is part of the "card" information that is created in the meta data of the page automatically. Most social media sites create and read this meta data, to help drive traffic to the article.

Since the video preview worked elsewhere, Rick went to the YouTube site to see what was wrong. What he found was a "Context Box" underneath the video. Apparently, this context box some how affects the preview of the video.

What was in "Context"?

Yes, that's right, an Britannica excerpt about Barack Obama. Why was that there? Well, Rick uses the subtitle that I use for the title of the video. "Obama’s Deep State Spies"

By using Obama in the title, YouTube (aka Alphabet) decided that it was important that the viewer know who "Obama" was. This is explained with the disclaimer when finding more information on the "Context Box"

Well, that's nice Britannica and Alphabet. It would be nice if you paid the YouTube contributors for this bit of advertising on our videos that blocks the preview of the video. I'm sure some people probably won't click through to view a video if it is blank, they might not think it is a legitimate link. Or, they might think that the video has been taken down or something.

This morning, Rick removed "Obama" from the title in the video. It now works as expected.

So helpful Alphabet, please stop trying to "Don't be evil." You're not good at it.
