Queen & Slim - "You’re willing to risk getting caught so we can dance?"

I decided to watch this film because it has Daniel Kaluuya as the main actor, you might remember him from the excellent suspense film Get Out. This time he gives us another awesome performance yet again, which I think positions this actor as one of the best ones out there, especially when it comes to performing on films full of tension.

Queen & Slim plot is not as awesome as Get Out's, but Kaluuya still manages to shine. In this movie, the story is about a black couple that is suddenly stopped by a racist white cop who is only looking to cause trouble for them and ruin their night. Things get out of control and what follows is a bizarre journey escaping from something they don't deserve and they never wanted.

In this journey, this couple will develop a bond they didn't have before and will unintentionally create some impact in the black community, which allows for some comedic scenes to be included in this film that is mostly about crime and drama.

I think this is a coincidence but this is the second movie in a row with Kaluuya as the lead where he is a victim of racism. The movie is clearly a message about the toxic ramifications that a racist attitude can cause on the lives of innocent people. However, this movie doesn't portray all blacks as saints and angels and this becomes quite clear at the end of the film.

It is important to note this isn't a movie about 2 murderers or robbers, they are a normal couple that gets caught in an extremely complicated situation. They are not like Bonnie and Clyde at all.

There are some very pretty shots and the movie has a proper length at around 2 hours. Most people will probably be entertained by this film even though it is about the difficult topic of racism and social hostility.

The best

• Daniel Kaluuya confirms he is a great actor. I will be keeping an eye out for his next movies/series.
• Funny moments properly mixed with drama.

The worst

• The woman despite being a lawyer makes silly mistakes when advising what to do next. In fact, the huge problem happens thanks to her.
• Their escape plan is hard to believe.
