THE POOR TOO, SHALL LAUGH

When this cloud which veils the sun
of her blaring light
is overshadowed by the balmy emblem of hope
the earth shall be wrapped in her feathers of lush greenery
and the bleakness which clothes the uncertain tomorrow
shall be blown off by the winds of resurging newness
then, the poor too, shall laugh

Let those who mount on the wings of eagles
soar swiftly with the speed of the surging tempest
let those who gather the speed of the cheetah, course the miles into the future
let those who scare away the termites
with the roars of the lion
remember that when the elephant shall bellow the dawning of tomorrow
the poor too, shall laugh

After this stormy rain
the cloud shall return to the embrace of its blueness
the sun shall smile, graced with the radiance of its beauty
the rainbow shall divide the sky into many walls of hope
the songs of the birds shall restore faith in the heart of boys
who lost their hope chasing broken dreams
For then, the poor too shall laugh

But until then
let the eagles mount
and let the lions roar in its boastfulness
let the baobab tower down on the shrubs in disgust
let the hidden snipe and the wounded cry
for soon
the poor too, shall laugh
