What am I up to at the moment?

in #walkwithme5 years ago (edited)

You might have noticed that I haven't been online for a couple of weeks. I wrote a comment here and there, but I have tried to stay away from Steemit as much as possible as I'm working hard on getting the restaurant ready to open for business in 6 months. You might think it's a lot of time but it's the opposite if you want to plan and execute all the steps properly.

It took me a few days to select the right wallpaper so you can imagine that it doesn't go very fast 😊 There are so many things that need to be done and I'm glad that I have met the right people from the business who are helping me to realize my dream. It's a time consuming but enjoyable process and I'm proud of every single small achievement that brings me closer to the goal.

Besides the work that I do I also still have to study as my exams are approaching fast and I must admit that I'm not ready yet. I only have two more weeks to study and I'm becoming a little bit nervous to be honest. I will have to study harder if I want to pass them, but there are many more interesting things to do that keep me away from the books.

I'm so excited as later this week I should receive the sketches from my interior designer. We agreed on three different designs that she will put together. I will choose one that we will be working on and which we will also use for the 360-degree visualization that will be uploaded to the website as well.

Right now, I am working on a draft of my seasonal menu too, so I also do a lot of recipe testing to understand if a certain dish would fit the whole theme or not. All dishes will be regional and as we have an abundance of wild garlic here, I would like to add it to my spring menu. Last Sunday I went to the forest to collect some and turn it into delicious meals. These are my secret recipes 😊, but I would like to share some photos that I took on the way.

Hope you will enjoy them:

I will share more updates with you soon.

Your photos are wonderful, and I am so pleased that you are taking on this new adventure in your life! I will really be looking forward to hearing all the details as you go forward. I can't even imagine how busy you must be right now, but know that we are thinking about you and wishing you all the best!

I am a little bit busy these days and I can't even imagine how it will be when it will get closer to the opening day. Right now I'm just praying that all will go the way I want and that I will sign the rental agreement soon so that I can start with some adjustments already.

Thank you for your kind wishes. It is lovely to know that someone is thinking about me! :)

wow, you are getting close... I'm excited for you Martina, you are going to be great!!! Its ok to take a break, just don't forget your fans here ;)

Thank you Dave!! Hahaha, how could I forget my lovely fans, especially YOU! :)

awwww... thanks...

Noticing you had written another post @delishtreats and happy for you to read the progress you are making in realizing your dream. I liked the amount of detail you offer. It clearly indicates to me how well prepared you are in moving forward. The challenges you face are just an inevitable part of life. Your approach, while there are no guarantees, I believe significantly increases the likelihood of your success.

”Besides the work that I do I also still have to study as my exams are approaching fast and I must admit that I'm not ready yet. I only have two more weeks to study and I'm becoming a little bit nervous to be honest.”

I was not sure to what this was referring. Are you required to obtain some sort of business license for your restaurant? And you have to pass a test to get it? If anywhere close, what on earth are they testing you about?

”All dishes will be regional and as we have an abundance of wild garlic here, I would like to add it to my spring menu. Last Sunday I went to the forest to collect some and turn it into delicious meals.”

This sounded most interesting, as I can picture it quite well. “Spring” menu, so it will be a seasonal item. Still, it will be interesting what you find you will need to do to meet the demand (hopefully 😉). Maybe your future “walkwithme” stress reliever, while still taking care of your responsibilities! After all, you will have a “quality control” aspect there, which you most likely will want to personally attend to … 😉

Very nice pictures you took along the way to your secret stash of wild garlic! Clearly your season is ahead of ours. We are finally getting some warmer weather, but we’ve awoken this morning to find a fresh “skiff” of snow on the ground. Luckily for us, it will be melted before long. That is partly how we distinguish Spring from Winter. How long the snow remains on the ground, once it has fallen … 😉

Great to get your update @delishtreats. Looking forward to future posts on your new “journey.” All the best to you along the way!

I have tried to think everything through so that there can't be any nasty surprises. I'm not saying I have covered everything yet but I'm working on all the details that I can think of. I have also talked to some people from gastronomy already which helped me a lot.

In the canton where I live you have to have some experience in gastronomy if you want to obtain a licence to open a restaurant. I don't have it so I have to pass an exam. It's about hygiene, various foods, preparation, control, risks, various bacteria, viruses, etc.. The problem is that it's in German so it doesn't go as fast as I would love to. These are parts from the law so you can imagine it's not written with the easiest language..

I don't think there will be many 'walkwithme' going forward as I really don't have that much time and when I do I prefer just to sit down and have a cup of coffee. But we will see :) Absolutely! That will be one of my tasks :) I will focus on managing the business and making sure that we adhere to all the local regulations. They are very strict with the quality here so it will be a huge task.

I think we will have it in season for a few more weeks. I wanted to go again today but didn't manage so will try to go tomorrow in the afternoon. Snow at the end of March? Is this usual? Hopefully it will melt very soon. It was 20 degrees Celsius here today. I was sitting outside in my t-shirt :)

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words!

Whoa @delishtreats, gastronomy ... Sounds scary! 😉

"It's about hygiene, various foods, preparation, control, risks, various bacteria, viruses, etc."

Well, I guess that's not so bad then. But in German? I'm obviously not from "over there," so I goggled "Swiss language." The "Reader's Digest" version of what I see is there is no "official" Swiss language - but instead four languages! Good grief ... 😉 Good luck with that!

"... as I really don't have that much time and when I do I prefer just to sit down and have a cup of coffee."

Makes perfect sense, although I will miss our engagement. Hopefully we'll still hear from you from time to time. We'll want to know how it is going. "The good, the bad, and the ugly" ... 😊

"Snow at the end of March? Is this usual?"

Yes, quite common. Since moving to where we live now, in fact, the single biggest snowstorm (it was a bit "freakish" though ...) we've experienced was on May 8th - Mother's Day here in America that year. We had elected to go across to the other side of the Continental Divide for a little trip in celebration. The problem was wouldn't get back across the passes to return to work on Monday morning! They were closed!!

P.S. In case you are not familiar with the "Continental Divide," it runs down through the western United States. All rivers to the west of it flow to the Pacific ocean. All rivers to the east flow to the Gulf of Mexico ...

OH cool I hadn't hear you were starting up a restaurant, that is awesome :) Good luck getting everything ready! Six months is not much time, use it wisely :) Much love - Carl

Thank you Carl! I'm working on a vegan restaurant to be precise ;) Oh, time flies so quickly.. there is so much to be done and so little time but I'm sure I'll arrange everything before the grand opening :)

I'll be happy to invite you for a delicious meal if you ever happen to be in Switzerland :)

Sending hugs..

cool my sister was stationed in the American Embassy in Geneva for 3 years and still has lots of friends there, next time she schedules a trip maybe I will try to piggyback on and come at same time :)

That would be cool! Definitely let me know ;)

What an exciting time Martina. Thanks for keeping us updated. So fun that you have secret recipes I will have to come over and see your awesome restaurant and taste your vegan secret recipes. The flower pictures are lovely, especially the first couple. Love those beautiful little pink blossoms.

Thank you so much Sara! Oh yes :) I have gathered some inspiration on Internet, changed few things, add some ingredients, put together presentation on the plate and voila :) You will have to come to visit :) I'll make sure you'll be able to pay with crypto :)

I love those pink flowers too! I don't know what is the name of the bush but it feels like spring anytime I see them :)

I'm sure every menu will be as colorful and delicious just like the photos you shared. So excited for you! It's great that you are in good hands. It's okay to "leave" steemit for now and concentrate more on your business. All the best, Martina!

Thank you for your support! :) It's good to hear people saying that it's ok to leave the platform for some time. I feel guilty and I truly miss it here but I have to work on my dreams as well :) I will definitely be back very soon.

Hope you're doing well Arief! Haven't heard from you in a long time..

I know the feeling. I don't come here as often as before and there are a lot of people I miss interacting with.

Howdy delishtreats! well you could tell how excited for you I was on your last post and this time is even more so, I'm about to jump up and down! What a blessing this project is for the town, thanks for keeping up updated and you'll pass the exams with ease!

Hahaha, I'd love to see you jumping up and down cowboy :D

Well, it's not going to be with ease but I will hopefully pass it :)

How are you John?

Howdy this fine Saturday Martina!
Well, you are so smart that it won't take you long to learn enough to pass those exams I'm sure.

Me? My life is boring compared to yours but that's fine. I'm working on several projects around the property
like repairing and painting fences, getting ready to install patios, mowing grass...things like that. It's wonderful
weather this time of year to work outside before it gets too hot so life is good!

The jumping up and down would indeed be a comical sight because I've never had much of a verticle jump and now it's even more pitiful but in spirit I can jump as high as the house! lol.

Oh, I am indeed smart but also lazy :D I'm not used to study anymore and I am easily distracted. Everything takes me double time than when I was at school..

Why boring? Your projects are exciting too! You are also working on your dream - dream property, dream business :)

So what kind of jump have you had? :D I agree! In the spirit you can jump as high as you wish :)

Howdy delishtreats! Oh I see what you mean about school. You are just out of practice in memorizing.
I still think you will nail it royally!

Someday our home projects will be exciting I think but right now just repairs and maintenance isn't really.

Haha! What kind of jump did I have? really bad, it was a joke when I played basketball. I have no idea now because I haven't tried. How high can you jump?
I can probably jump 1.5 or 2 feet. lol. Yes, I'll concentrate what I can do in the spirit, no limits!

There is no way that you are lazy. That's impossible! Unless you are only talking about this one little area which is school and studying.

Nice pictures, it is still a while to we got flowers here north. Begin to look forward to it. Best wishes for exam and your restaurant 👍

We had a very mild winter this year so the first flowers started to come out in Feb already... I hope that it will get warmer soon for you too!

Thank you for your kind wishes!

Yay! I was thinking about trying to hunt you down to see where you were, so glad my mental telepathy worked! Hooray for moving forward with your dream! I'm so excited to see how it all unfolds. Spring has sprung here, so I am enjoying all the fresh ingredients popping up at the market to cook with in my own little kitchen. Wish I could be one of your taste-testers as you tweak your recipes!

I have missed Steemit so much but I really have to prioritize at the moment. I will try to spend here as much time as possible but it won't be as much as I could do in the past. Your mental telepathy definitely worked! :)

Oh, I would love to have you here to taste-test my recipes! But at least I still hope that you'll come over once you happen to be around here :)

Thank you for your kind words Katie! Hope you're doing well...

I totally understand! I'm trying to balance right now, as well. Finally working on ramping up the nutrition side of my coaching, so I need to focus a bit on being more productive all around and not just getting sucked in for hours online. ;)

Maybe if my business takes off I'll finally be able to set aside some travel funds! I would so love to come see you and your beautiful country! I'm sure that restaurant is going to be a fantastic gem to visit, too. I'm sure you'll be able to find a little time to at least give us a small "taste" of how everything is going. Continued good energy being sent your way as you get closer to making it a reality!

Yeah I noticed your absence but since you said that you're going to make a restaurant, I know that you are very busy right now. Exciting and stressful time, no doubt :D.

I didn't know that you are also having an exam... hopefully everything goes well.

I think it will become stressful when it's going to be closer to the opening :D For now it's just exciting and time consuming :)

Oh yes, have to do an exam in German as I have no experience in gastronomy. If you don't have any experience here you can't get a license unless you do that exam. My German is not brilliant and these is all about the legislation so first I had to translate every 5th word before I even understood what it is about :D

Thank you for stopping by scrawls and I hope you're doing well!
