Stuff and Nonsense!
Sometimes I just want to go on a bit of a rant about stuff. In this case, that stuff has to do with our Steemit community.
I have to admit that I feel a little bit distressed by the amount of "stuff and nonsense" I encounter when I look at my "recent" feed here on Steemit.
Half of the posts seem to be nothing more than AI generated slop that I can make no sense of whatsoever... other than to conclude that it is purely being created for the purpose of milking the system.
It's just so stupid because who cares about "My Deranged Monkey" trying to stuff a handbag in his pants? Over, and over, and over again...
It's not even AI trying to emulate a human... it's pure rank stupidity!
At the same time, however, all of these posts get voted to zero so I truly can't see the purpose of it. Even when the entire "farm system" votes on the posts, they end up at zero... so it ultimately ends up being nothing more than meaningless clutter on the blockchain.
However, given the sheer number of these maybe the originator is simply trying to overwhelm the system to the point that some of them will slip through. Ultimately the question I end up with is "why bother?"
Another thing I wonder about are the eternal "soft scams" that have run free here in our community for almost as long as there has been a Steemit.
For example, there is the classic "coin doubler" gambit which is being promoted by a mixture of posts about users allegedly doubling their investment in 60 days, mixed in with fake posts about whether "there is profit to be made by investing in Steemit," which are basically a thinly disguised version of the same coin doubler crap.
Why is this nonsense still around? Why have they not all been voted into oblivion with negative reputations? Inquiring minds want to know!
What's worrisome about this second category is that some innocent newcomer might get lured in by the promises and will then lose all their Steem tokens, because their returns will be nothing like all the "dummy accounts" used to "set up" the gig.
So what is this mini rant really about?
I am thinking that the genuine content gets increasingly drowned out by garbage and that is not good for the community. However I don't have any real solutions to this... other than having a large amount of Steem power available to perpetually vote all of these farm/scam accounts to oblivion.
And even so, would it ever be possible to substantially reduce the volume of such garbage?
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Sunday!

I completely agree.
That was one of the observations at the end of the True Colors curation process.
Many of those posts have zero rewards; there are multiple accounts creating similar content, obviously with AI. Just by looking at the style, it's easily recognizable, and they also create accounts with similar names and posts with similar titles. I even saw inappropriate content. In communities, there's an option to mute posts, but in the rest of the platform, in the tags where this happens, I don't know what can be done. Perhaps the developers could suggest something.

¡Gracias!
Yes, it definitely becomes both a challenge, as well as a potential waste of time for curators to look through these posts... since they often have titles that sound good, and the true content is not visible from just reading the few thumbnail words in the post feed.
It's just annoying and frustrating... and discouraging. Which I say, as someone who has been here for nine years...
