Better Times Don't "Happen," We CREATE Them!

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Over the years, I have had countless conversations with people from all walks of life about the general idea of reaching "better times ahead."

As I have aged, I have become increasingly aware of the reality that "better times" are not something that happen, they are something we create.

I suppose it's tempting to sit around and think about the outcome of life like it's some kind of giant "lottery."

Certainly, I'll be the first to admit that there are elements of good and bad luck in the world, but for the most part, the outcomes of our lives are directly related to what we put into them.

I expect much of the disappointment people experience from things not turning out the way they had hoped can be traced directly back to the fact that those people didn't take an active role in guiding the outcomes of their lives.

Our kids — who are now in their 30's — seem to operate more on the bandwidth of life "happening." Part of me can definitely understand that... it seems like we have grown increasingly powerless in the face of external factors in this day and age.

But we can still be "active agents in our own lives," even so... within the boundaries that might have been externally defined for us.

I ended up thinking about this particular concept as a result of reflecting on a couple of years of "weirdness" due to Covid lockdowns and restrictions... definitely an experience of feeling like we had no control over anything.

And now we suffer with a failing economy, inflation and worries about escalating war. But humanity has always lived with states of unrest and chaos...

Someone once said to me that those who will come out ahead when times get better are those who kept "building" even when things seemed the darkest and most hopeless.

I can attest to the truth of that with a very "local" example people might relate to: I kept blogging just as much here on Steemit when we watched the token sink down towards 7 cents and even below, back in the first half of 2017. Later that same year, it made it up to 7 dollars.

I have always tried my best to not get derailed by the events of the world. It's easy to get trapped down inside negative news stories and start despairing.

And even though I am not in the greatest frame of mind these days, I'm still determined to "show up" every day, even when I don't feel like it.

I have to keep on believing that I am creating better times ahead!

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your week!

How about you? Do you believe in "keeping on" even when the world weighs heavily on you? Do you think better times ahead are something we can CREATE? Or do they simply "happen" or "not happen?" Do leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
