ColorChallenge - Monday Red - Bright Red Beach Glass - Macro Photography
So this now marks the sixth day that I enter a post in @kalemandra's photography #colorchallenge I also suggest checking out the supporting @colorchallenge page! There, you will also explanatory posts about the challenge at more length.
I am once again using one of my most favorite subjects for macro photography: Beach glass my wife and I have found while walking around on our local beaches.
This also represents the continuation of my personal challenge to go through an entire 7-day cycle, using only appropriately colored sea glass as the subject matter!
A collection of very rare bright red beach glass
For Monday's entry, I shot a closeup of some of our bright red sea glass-- even though these pieces are quite small (+/- 1/2" or 12-13mm) the come across as little boulders or gumdrop candies.
Some beach combers may be aware that red is an extremely rare color to find-- it was not used for commercial glass, so most pieces come from things like automotive taillights (back when they were made of glass!), the glass lenses on warning lamps, and the like.
Camera: Fuji Finepix HS20 EXR, macro setting 80mm equivalent; shot in natural daylight.
How about YOU? Are you a beach comber? Have you ever found bright red beach glass while visiting the sea side? If yes, did you wonder where it came from? Leave a comment!

That's so awesome that you just find that on the beach! I don't go to the beach much, but when I do, I never really run across things like these. I might just not be looking too well either.
They are not something you see every day... if you think about the common colors of commercial glass (water bottles, beer bottles, wine bottles) it's almost always green, brown, clear or very pale blue. The intense and unusual colors can be very difficult to find. I happen to live near where there was a sea-side garbage dump 50+ years ago, so that opens many more possibilities.
Those are bloody red, so satisfying. Upvoted and followed!
Thank you! They do have a super intense color... especially with a little sunlight.
Wow, that almost looks like candy! You are doing well with the color challenges, you should jump into the memechallenges too. I just posted a funny entry for it!
I'll have a look... I'm not that big on memes though; probably too many years spent on Farcebook!
reminds me of when I was a kid and tried to get as many different colors of beach glas as i could. awesome picture! followed you for more, if you would check out my adventure blog I would highly appreciate it :-)
Thank you! Sea glass has been my favorite beach combing item since I was a little kid-- many many jars of it, collected over some 50 years.
Very nice stones:) It was good idea to show them in colorchallenge
Thank you! I added my own "challenge" to the color challenge by only doing these pictures of beach glass for one week... almost done!
So far I love the red the best. You captured the color so vividly. It would be cool to see a combined post with all 7 colors of sea glass images when you complete the week. For day 8 :-)
I sort of started to run out of time there towards the end-- but I might still do that; good suggestion!
Would be perfect for the new #rainbowmontage color challenge. I posted my collage today.
very nice thanks
Thank you!
Very beautiful photo. It looks like candy. So alluring.
Thank you!
