"Syndrome of Creativity"
Based on the results of the experiment, about which we spoke above, Sternberg concluded that there is a "Syndrome of Creativity". To confirm this, the scientists carried out additional studies to identify the role that analytical intellectual abilities play in the overall structure of creativity.
During the research, verbal, mathematical and spatial intelligence was measured. 199 students were involved in the experiment. All of them were divided into two large groups - highly creative and low-creative students. In the college where they studied, they read the same psychology course, but in two different variations - one course was designed to stimulate students' creative thinking, while the other, on the contrary, did not stimulate it. As a result, the result achieved by the students was evaluated, depending on the specifics of the course and the initial indicator of their creativity.
The results turned out to be more than interesting: those students who initially had a high degree of creativity, in most cases and often more often put forward their own ideas, showed initiative to organize experiments independently and offered all sorts of hypotheses if the experimental conditions varied. To put it differently, students who were trained in creative conditions showed higher results than students who had the same degree of creativity, but were trained in the usual standard conditions.
