How Pooch and Jade Became Best Friends - First Half of Complete Picture Story

Foreword

Once upon a time, there lived an old pooch.

He was so poor that the only name he had ever had was ... Pooch. For many years, he had faithfully served his masters in the city. Many years. A whole lifetime. Almost. In the end, when he grew too old to guard the house, look after the children and bark at the postman, his masters had shown him the door. "Off you go, Pooch!" They shouted. And good old Pooch left.

He shouldered his sorry tiny bundle of belongings and marched off. Limped, to be perfectly honest.

But our Pooch was no giver-upper; more of a whoppa-cheeka he was, to be quite honest with you. After a few moments of sadness, loss and confusion, he grinned his still toothy grin, remembering his lifelong dream. Then he wrinkled his nose at the smell of the city's streets, sniffed, caught his dearest dream's scent and followed it out, way out of the city into the countryside. For it was there where he wanted to find a life in the wild among the trees and animals that still grew and flew whichever way they wanted. That was his dream.

But soon our Pooch found out that the free life in the wild was not the safest thing to do; not as safe as sleeping beside a sofa, at any rate. For in the wild lived also robbers; wild robbers, hungry robbers. And they wanted their share, which was ... EVERYTHING (that's how robbers are; they don't share).

Would our old Pooch, former house dog and child minder in the city, be able to protect himself against the evil intruders and find a way to overcome the dangers of the wild? Or did the way have to find him in form of a mysterious damsel in distress? Would Pooch be able to make friends with an ancient enemy? Or would the enemy show him what's what and that he did not belong in the countryside?

Pooch and Jade, you might already guess, is a story about an unusual friendship, pluck and also that little bit of luck, which we all need every once in a while. It is an adventure story with backbone and morale; to say nothing of its high morals! It is also a story in verses, a nursery rhyme and a first introduction to maths; for there are many sheep to spy with your little eye and, of course, to count. Pooch and Jade brings you the warmth and happiness that stems from child-friendly, educational fun. And there is lots to learn from this story for all parents and parents-to-be, too.
