The First Travel Video I Ever Made - Motorbikes, Bamboo Rafting, and Natural Waterslides in the Thai Jungle
One of the great things about creating is looking back on past work and seeing how far you've come. Some people look at old work in a negative way, and would prefer that it never be seen again. I take the opposite approach, focusing instead on the progress I've made.
There's a whole lot I would do differently now with this video, beginning with the way this was filmed, to the song, the editing style, and everything else. Still it's nice to go back and watch it. This is especially true of things like travel videos where they also serve as a reminder of a fun time with good friends.
This really was a great day. We planned to just visit the waterfalls (Erawan Falls in Kanchanaburi Thailand). We got sidetracked quickly when we stopped to take pictures of the river and saw an old woman with a bamboo raft. We randomly asked if we could rent it for a couple of hours and to our surprise she said yes. Putt putting up and down the river was really fun. The detour made us quite late to the waterfall which worked out perfectly. If you are up at the top level when they start closing, you can make your way slowly back down and have each level entirely to yourself. We also arrived at the dam in the beautiful late afternoon light.
That day epitomized my travel style, and I'm glad I have the video as a memory, even if it isn't very good. That's actually the main reason I started making videos in the first place.
