Diversity + Neighbours = Life is good
It's Tuesday evening, nearly 9pm, and there's much hilarity in our normally quiet little street where we live.
Since we've moved in last year December, we've barely had neighbors or anyone around us, the houses always dark and quiet.
However our Muslim neighbors across the road is staying in their house for a few days. They only ever seem to visit their property on long weekends and holidays. They work hard every day that they stay there to make their property better. I often stand in amazement at how hard they work.
It took them quite a while and a lot of friendly SA determination to get them used to and greet their new neighbors (us) but I'm happy to say that every time they see us now we get a wave, a friendly Bonjour and a smile. We're now fixtures to them. A familiar sight. Small steps. 😁
We recently, well as recent as the beginning of October, acquired two Kenians and a Mauritian lady in one of the apartments adjacent to our house. I was over the moon as for the past nine months we've literally had no neighbors all around. Now at least I know we've got someone next door if I'm in a fix.
Two other houses next to our immediate neighbors and opposite our house normally also only occupy their homes on weekends so hearing the voices and laughter mid-week makes it feels like a proper summers evening during the holidays.
I was even thinking now while I was outside that as much as I'm looking forward to our upcoming visit to SA that for now this is our 'home'. One which I'll miss during our two months away. Our neighborhood is a melting pot of people and cultures but I love it.
It's a strange feeling but it shows how far we've come in the past ten months since we've been here. Settled. Happy. In our 'home', where the furniture and even the crockery don't belong to us.
But l, we've made it ours for the time being. 😏 That's something often easier said than done when one relocates to a strange country but we've managed it as a family. It makes me proud of being part of this foursome. 👌
Anyhow, I've not been feeling well, having had a dull neck and headache the whole day today so I'm off to bed. I wish you a good evening and sleep tight everyone. ❤️
