Most Southern Tip of Africa 🌍
Every now and then hubby and myself take a few days off without the kids to explore some or other weird and wonderful place. This trip was in the winter of 2017 and we went to one of my old time favorites as a child. Agulhas. Where you find the 'TIP' of Africa.
Enroute the car got a bit dirty. 😂
It was an extremely cold day. For us in SA at least.
To me this is easily on of the most beautiful places in my country. It boasts a magnificent coastline with the ocean beating against the rocks. It has some amazing nature, birdlife and fauna and flora.
The lighthouse at Agulhas is very famous and pops up on many photos, professional and otherwise. This is the walkway down to the beach.
Succulents abound here where there is not much rainfall. The next photo is just because I love rocks.. 😂
The most Southern Tip of Africa where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet. Indian Ocean to the left and Atlantic Ocean to the right of us.
Posing for the photo like a boss.
Next up was this amazing lighthouse. Awesomeness in itself. You pay a nominal fee to get access to go in and explore right up to the top.
Found on Wikipedia
The Cape Agulhas Lighthouse is situated at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa. It was the third lighthouse to be built in South Africa, and the second-oldest still operating, after Green Point.[2] It is located on the southern edge of the village of L'Agulhas, in the Agulhas National Park; the light is operated by Transnet National Ports Authority. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Agulhas_Lighthouse
The whole building captured.
The view from the verandah.
Some photos of the inside where they have some old photos and documents on display about the history of the lighthouse.
Some photos of lighthouses all over the world.🗺
The stairs nearly killed me.. 😂 I DO NOT like heights and then hubby wants me to keep my pose for a photo whilst I'm dying inside. Honestly though I loved the oldness of everything inside the lighthouse, the old wood. The stairs and more.
My turn to take a photo.. 😂
Yes... I had to go up and down that as well. Scary stuff and not for the faint-hearted.
A beautiful window on the inside.
We made it too the very very windy top. We had to hold on for dear life the winds were so strong.
The view from the top. Where the two oceans meet. There is even a South African wine called Two Oceans as well as a running race with the same name.
The quaint town of Agulhas in the background. It's mostly a very popular holiday destination.
