Iconic New York Candy Shop Makes New Changes To Stay Afloat
It is the oldest candy store in New York City
It is also one of the most famous candy shop locations in the world, a 3rd generation candy business which opened back in 1937, known as Economy Candy.
The shop is located in Manhattan's Lower East Side.
With the economic shutdown in New York and around other regions of the United States, they have had to get creative with trying to generate sales during this time. This means trying some new efforts to try and keep their business going despite the decline in sales from usual customers that might come visiting the store.
Curbside Pickup and Gift Packs
To try and help things along they've introduced curbside pickup for candy orders and they are also putting together candy care packages, or 'CandyCare' packs, that can be ordered for delivery.
For their CandyCare packages that they are newly offering they have already sold over 2,000 of them.
Strong Demand For Candy
They have seen a strong demand so far for the CandyCare packs and they are hoping that this is going to be enough to be able to keep the business going for a few weeks or months, until they might start to see normal numbers again coming through the doors.
For their introduction of the CandyCare packs alone, they've helped to introduce tens of thousands in new sales by bundling the items together for those candy offers.
They are hoping to be in business another 80 years
At a time when most people have been stuck at home and many are doing a lot more shopping online, it's a great idea for the business to offer another new product that they might be able to consider ordering easily online.
Many of the people who would frequent the shop are tourists and so it might be awhile yet before they see those sorts of numbers again, until many people feel comfortable to travel once more and many restrictions preventing them from doing so are lifted.
